royal enfield Bullet around india and beyond

Arriving in Mumbai on November 11 for indefinite trip around India and beyond and looking to buy a royal enfield bullet to travel round on. Wondering if anyone else has the same idea and fancies teaming up somewhere.

Have no plans but am probably giving a friend a lift from Mumbai to Varanasi to begin with.

Thanks crimsonriver, I'll check that out. Have to say I'm rather envious of his touratech panniers. I'm struggling with what kind of baggage to take as I need hardwearing but convenient. 55L rucksacks and bikes don't mix.

I have a site www.geocities.com/happysnapper999/ which has a whole range of my stuff on it.

Thank you for the info Sumit. I am taking some camera equipment and need at least one hardcase to try and keep it in one piece.

Did you get your Honda in India? You should check out the "my family in old photos" section of my website as a number of India pre-partition photos.

hi. gr8 to know u intend to explore india on two-wheels..
you have a choice of 350 and 500cc enfields in india. the 350cc comes with both left gear-shift and right-shift options, front disc and electric start options too..

that would do just fine for u i guess.
i too have been using the cramster bags, amazing stuff. send a mail to info@cramster.in (to a guy called keerti, and take xbhp's reference)

yes, we do get the honda bikes manufactured in india. but just one, the 150cc unicorn. if u want a bigger honda, there is the 223cc herohonda karizma also available.

i will give u some contact nos when you land in mumbai. these people will help you out in selecting your bike and luggage carrying stuff.

i will be heading north to the himalayas on my karizma from 30th oct to 9th nov ( i am currently in pune, 165kms east of mumbai)

Hello there.
i am a passioante biker (Yamaha FJR 1300) from germany and have been two years ago in India. Each biker-magazine writes about enfield and so I rented one fro two days but gave it back on the first evening. It was an elder model and very hard to handle. On our way back to the hotel in the darkness it stopped 15 times on 60 km and shifting gears with two neutral positions is sh....
So I took a Bajaj-motorbike and it was ok.

Why pick up an old British thumper that has been discarded with much disdain and pleasure. Today any given day some 50 cc scootrette from a third world country will out perform Enfield in terms of operation ease if nothing else.
Though it does wonders to the esoteric ego of the people who want to do things hard way and differently it still chug like a bathtub on wheels for all practical reasons and being 4 stoker its easy thing to store petrol for fume dopes.
