Rishikesh mid - January

As mentioned before on another thread I'll be alone for just over a week mid - Jan (14th - 20th) & am thinking of Rishikesh on the advice of various forum members.
If there are any girls on here who'll be there then / guys, let me know!

Jan will be too cold in Rishikesh. The right place to go to would be Goa...I'm heading there for a small holiday from 16th-21st.

'Too cold' or just cold?
Spent a month in Goa in Oct so don't really want to go back so soon. Plus, it was busy enough for me then, sounds pretty grim from friends of mine who've been in Dec & Jan - think the number of tourists will annoy me!

Plus, I'm in North India now & will need to be in North India a week later so seems silly (& expensive) to go down South again.

Is Rishikesh really a bad idea?
If so can you recommend any places to kill a week in North India that's easily accessible from Delhi? Not Rajasthan or Varanasi - already been / going.

It will be a bit chilly after dark but you can expect more pleasant warm days, than dull grey ones with a temp of around 18-20C in the sun!!
All in all pleasnt enough in the daytime though a tad cold at night but that is pretty much the picture anywhere in North India at this time of year!!

Bharatpur is another place but it laacks the stunning natural beauty of Rishikesh!

If you haven't already got one pick up a fleece in Delhi, they're a bit herder to come by in Rishikesh!

Cheers cyberhippie - not too worried by a bit of cold! More concerned I'll be the only one there but most people seem to think it'll be busy enough & safe for a solo female traveller too. Looking forward to the scenery!

In Rishikesh it will be around freezing in the night and a comfortable 8-12 degrees in the day. If you're okay with a little bit of cold, Rishikesh would be nice. Find a place which has a heater or something for the nights, and carry a good sleeping bag and warm clothes. Actually i was in Vashist in begining Dec for a couple of days and almost froze in the cold. The place where i stayed didn't have a heater and the temperatures were -5 degrees in the Night. It was really cold. But don't worry Rishikesh wont be like that.

As for Goa being crowded, it all depends on what place you are in. Calangute, Candolim, Palolem will be crowded, but then there are places like patnem, morjim, agonda which have very little crowd evan in peak season.

If you havn't done it already you could think of doing the Rajasthan trip, as that is really nice for the Winters.

Doing the Rajasthan trip now - Jaipur, Jodphur, Udaipur, Jaiselmeer, Kota, but will then go back to Delhi so heading off from there. I don't really like to backtrack on a trip so Goa & Rajasthan are probably out but I've neve been to Uttaranchal so I think it'll be Rishikesh! I want to be able to hole up somewhere for a week & just relax, read, see some great scenery, maybe do some meditation etc.
I'll try get a room with a heater!

I was there last year at that time and its a bit cold. I will be there in late Jan. I would stay ant Green view. They have a great little restraunt downstairs. Funniest Pizza you will ever see or get in the world. hhhmm I dont know if they have heaters in the rooms but they are a good price and nice location. There is an ashram next door that teaches and is really relaxing, I shifted over there after a day, so you can try and see if they will let you.
