Hi Daniela,
I agree it would be nice to travel with another girl. I still don’t have my plans all in order, but I think I’ll be in Jaipur around the 22nd and then I’ll head West. I have to be back in Delhi by Nov 12th. If you’re in Rajasthan before then let me know when and where. |

Affordable accommodations in Pushkar during the camel fair?
Does anyone know if I’ll be able to get accommodations in pushkar during the camel fair if I arrive on the 25th? I’ve heard that it is very busy and I’m a bit nervous about showing up without a place to stay, but all the places that book ahead are really expensive?
I realize that everywhere jacks their prices, but is it reasonable to assume I could spend $10-20US a night for something moderate? |

Hey Jasmineflower
Pushkar will be very crowded during the camel fair..I called up few hotels yesterday and most of them were full and couple of them were quoting pretty high...above 1000 rupees. |

One option can be to stay in Ajmer and make day trips to Pushkar for couple of days. Ajmer is just 40 minutes drive from Pushkar.

That logic of staying in ajmer is old hat. Everyone's trying it so even ajmer rates aren't "cheap".
HOP, interesting. Its okay if one has enough time and patience to wander about a bit

A friend and I are interested in this if you still have space. What are the details of your trip? We are two Americans who are living in Delhi for a few months with plans to travel. We are very friendly, and would love to travel with you. - Arvil |

Rajasthan and Pushkar travel in Oct-Nov
I am planning to go from Mumbai to Pushkar (& Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mt Abu, Khichan, etc) from Oct 26-Nov 15.
My husband & I are from the US (originally from India) and are currently traveling and discovering India. If anyone wants to hook up for part of the journey, rent/share a car/driver, or just meet up in Pushkar for a short while, contact me. Quote:

HI everyone
My brother and I (in our mid to late 20s) are coming to Pushkar on 31st. Its the first leg of our Asian tour. Can you suggest places to go so we can meet likemind travellers? I assume its easy to get a bus to Pushkar from Ajmer? After the Camel Fair, we're hoping to tour around Rajasthan and do the touristy thing. I don't fancy spending my days in car with my younger brother, so opting for trains. Are trains around Rajasthan quick and easy? (easy to book tickets etc) Big thanks! |

trains aren't particularly great in there (in parts only - so jodhpur-jaisalmer is one section, as is ajmer - abu.)
You can take *decent* (not comfortable as a train) sleeper buses (pack a quilt to sleep on) overnight within Rajasthan - perfectly safe. |

Many guest houses in Pushkar have accomodation because most pilgrims and local visitors stay in temple dharamshalas or out in the open in the dunes. Just in case you do not find accomodation, catch the bus to Ajmer in evening and find plenty of space around the Dargah from Rs.400 upwards.
