photography road trip to kinnaur > spiti

i am driving down in my own car from delhi > kinnaur > spiti > manali > delhi for 2-3 weeks from 11 august 2006 onwards. this is a photography trip for me. i am looking for people wanting to travel with me.

i will be driving in an indica. and have lots of experience driving in the hills and trekking in the himalayas.

there is a small trek section (chandra tal) in the end. i have always wanted to do this trek, but could never find the time. it is not difficult and if you don’t have previous treking experience it should not be any problem.

most of the trip is at very high altitude (above 3,000m). we will also be staying in the highest village in kibber at over 4200m. some people can have high altitude sickness, check with your docs. but we will be gaining hight slowly and acclimatiseing properly.

my trips are mostly budget trips. what this means is not staying in fancy resorts that are all over the place (i can’t afford them for such a long trip and need to save money for the large number of photo prints that i make). i will be carrying a tent and would like to stay in it were ever we can. this gives us the flexibility to stay in places where there will be no accomodation. i also generally like to do ‘home stay with local families’, this gives a better feel of the place, culture, meet local people, and eat local food. we might have to do some of this anyways because there is no proper hotel accomodation in most of the places. and even the hotels/guest houses available will be very basic.

below is a tentative schedule. still working out where all to go. if it gets too long will have to shorten the kinnaur section (Sangla and Kalpa) by 2 days.

the trip schedule will change as we go along. since this is a photography trip (at least for me) i would like to go to all the places and will stop at least 50 times in 50 km!!!! you could say we will not leave any stone unturned!! ha ha!!
