Permit Buddies for Nagaland and/or Arunachal Pradesh (Nov/Dec 2007)

Hello,

We are two 20-something guys looking for other people to travel with in the northeast states, specifically Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. We are willing to fly to Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai, or Guwahati if we can find two or more people who want to join us to apply for RAPs (restricted area permits). We want to get them immediately, and we've read many threads on Thorntree that tell us this is possible easily at the offices in Delhi and Kolkatta. I got information that a Nagaland permit can be obtained by phone, fax, and mail from Guwahati. We are hoping to fly out of Ahmedabad in the next week, so if anyone has interest in joining us, or is also looking for permit companions, write us back!

If we aren't able to find other travelers in Delhi, Kolkatta, or Mumbai in the next week or so, we're planning to try our luck in Guwahati. The link below suggests that RAPs can be obtained there, but we are still researching it. If anyone on IndiaMike has information about it, the advice would be invaluable!

If anyone has information about getting Arunachal Pradesh permits in Guwahati (without booking a tour) this information would also be helpful. I've gotten information that tells me it can be done, and a few names of travel agencies. Is anyone else bumming around Guwahati looking for permit buddies? It would be great to make it to Nagaland for the Hornbill festival Dec. 1-5. It's best to contact us through e-mail at ehrenfeld.dan@gmail.com.

By "immediately," I mean "in the next month or so." We're most interested in seeing Nagaland for the Hornbill Festival in December.

Dan and Dave, I'm in Guwahati at moment. Looking to find partners for Arunachal and Nagaland. I'm older than you at 48. Do lots of adventure stuff. Reply straight away if interested to know more. I'm ready to go now. If no permit , I'll go to Meghalaya and other NE states. Have motorbike transport.
Regards, Rob

Kokoda,

We have already applied for an Arunachal Pradesh permit to see Tawang. We also have a Nagaland permit coming on Tuesday. Apparently it IS possible for less than four people. Who knew? If you want either of those, we did them through Himalayan Holidays and Rhino Travels, so check them out and compare prices.

We are still looking for partners to travel in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. We're doing a second Arunachal Pradesh permit. We want to go from Dec.12-Dec.22 (approx.) We are hoping to start from Nagaland, pass into Pasinghat, Along, Daporijo, Ziro, Tezpur, and other villages along that loop. The permit can be done in a day or two. The total cost is 300 US (100 of that is commission), but split three or four ways we think it's pretty reasonable. If you're interested in going to Arunachal around that time, let me know pretty soon and we can make a plan!

Arunachal Rob

Hi Dan and Dave,
I'm leasving Guwahati now for Shillong. I fly out from India on 19/12/07. so its a long time to hang around this area till 10/12/07and then rush to a port and sell the bike. If you were going now, I'd love to have done it.
I'm trying to get to Shillong, then cross the bangladeshi border to Kolkata and head down the Indian east coast maybe to jungles of Chattisgarghand across to Goa.
A typhoon has blown out most of the roads for the next 200 kms so I may be back past Guwahati and reconnect with you. Right now thta seems unlikely.
If I dont see you , have a great trip. I always wanted to see nagaland and Arunachal. so I'll keep your site posted.
regards, Rob

Kokoda,

We're in Shillong right now too. We just came back from Cherrapujee and it was beautiful.

I imagine Bangladesh will be excellent, with good roads or not. If anything, it's good you hung around guwahati or you might have been washed away with all those kilometers of road. Take care, and if time permits for an Arunachal trip let me know. I guess we might be out of there as early as the 20th of December, if that helps at all.

Rob in Shillong

Dan, I didn't hang around in big city, Guwahati.Just an overnighter. I rode through the cyclone tail and have been in Shillong since Saturday. I love those challenging roads and difficult conditions. Rob
