Nov Dec and Jan India by train
Hi all. I'm so glad I found this site. I've learned loads. I plan on going solo using a 60 day Indrail pass to go from Delhi round the Golden triangle across to Calcutta down through Madras to Kerala, chill out there for a while and then head up to Goa for a while. Then I should start thinking about coming home. I've been to India a few times but never the Northern part. I'm really looking forward to it and quite excited about doing it all by train. If anyone wants to tag along for a bit or meet up for a beer and to exchange ideas tips etc, let me know. I'm like a sponge at the moment trying to soak up all the advice I can get.

Visiting India by Indrail pass is really exciting, since you have been to India few times earliar so I think you must be awarw about the basics. North part of India is very colorful like the Soth but the colors will be a bit different here, different culture, different people a lot apart from from what you had seen in South. Do not forget to add Rajasthan and Agra The Tajmahal and Varanasi to name a few.Happy travelling, do not forget to share your experice of North, once it is finished. Happy travelling.

Hi, Whilst I don't have an exact itinerary I have more or less settled on this route thanks to the help from others on another thread.
I should arrive Delhi around Nov 1st and all numbers after towns are the minimum nights I think I should stay - so that will give you an idea of how flexible I am. Also I have decided not to use a travel pass but to pay as I go. Delhi 3 Amritsar 3 Jaipur/Udaipur/Mt Abu/Jodhpur/Ajmer/Bharatpur 14 Mathura/Vrindravan (same place ish?) 2 Agra 2 Orccha 2 Varanasi/Sarnath 5 Calcutta 3 Darjeeling? (doubt it!)2 Puri 2 Tamil Nadu Chennai/Mammalapuram/Kanchipuram/Pondichery/Rameshwaram/ Kanyakumarai/ Varkala/Trichy/Ooty/Madurai/Valparai 21 Cochin/Kerala/Goa lots Buck |

I have just visited India in June. This time, I have two options. Either I travel the South part or go to Jodpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer. May be we could meet in Jaipur. |

No problem friend. Nearer the time we should get in touch and see if we will pass each other. Always nice to have a bit of company.

Jaisalmer must have fell off the list but it's back now!
Delhi 3 Amritsar 3 Jaipur/Udaipur/Mt Abu/Jodhpur/Ajmer/Bharatpur/Jaisalmer 14 Mathura/Vrindravan (same place ish?) 2 Agra 2 Orccha 2 Varanasi/Sarnath 5 Calcutta 3 Darjeeling (doubt it!)2 Puri 2 Tamil Nadu Chennai/Mammalapuram/Kanchipuram/Pondicherry/Rameshwaram/ Kanyakumarai/ Varkala/Trichy/Ooty/Madurai/Valparai 21 Cochin/Kerala/Goa lots I'm still contemplating more but it's fitting everything in I think some of the above may get missed until another trip. I seem to remember reading your post about clothes for the north. From your programme you are not really going to cold areas, All you need is a light windproof, fleece again lightweight, a silk vest, hat scarf, socks, some Tshirts and just layer up. If its wet buy a brolly there, S Monsoon can last into Dec....... brolly 60/-. If its too cold buy a shawl there

Thanks for your advice. A few people have suggested buying/wearing a shawl and I pretty much baulked at the idea. Now I'm thinking WTF as long as I'm warm! I think I've got my head round my packing. Cheers

Just to clarify the use of the Indrail Pass: this will not allow you to just get on a train without a reservation and have a berth.

Hi! I will be in Varanasi the nights of November 23rd and 24th, and then an overnight (well, 6 hours) train to Gaya on the 25th, and the night of the 26th in Bodh Gaya. Might that overlap with you?
