My Malaysia & Singapore trip - First time visiting there so need help !!

Hi Friends,

Good Day to all of you.

Not sure if this is the right forum for me to post about my International travel plan but still giving it a try.

I’m travelling to Malaysia and Singapore from 25 Dec 2009 to 3 Jan 2010. Oh yeah!! That’s the time when most of you would be busy in New Years. And I’ll be one of those who would look forward to have some adventure trails in Singapore.

I have booked my tickets for New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur on 24 Dec night and would reach to KL on 25-Dec early Morning. I have also booked my KL to Singapore tickets on 1 Jan 2010 and return on 2 Jan 2010 back to KL. I hope 48 Hours should be sufficient for me to see Singapore and Santosa.

Being a bagpacker I have confirmed YMCA Hostel in KL, but since Singapore YMCA seems to be as expensive as a 4 star hotel, I might end-up staying in some other hostel there.

I need your advice on some of the things as below:
1. Safety to travel in Malaysia and Singapore that time. (New Years)
2. Some decent hostel accommodation in Singapore, if any of you have ever stayed-in such hostel.
3. A decent hotel accommodation in Penang, as I am planning to fly there on 26 Dec from KL and return on 27 Dec night.
4. Some “must see” & “must do & don’ts” in Malaysia & Singapore.
5. A travel Partner, if someone is visiting that time please let me know.

Looking forward to hear from you….and FYI, I’ll be travelling alone there. So your help would be of real importance to me.

Both very safe locations.

I have stayed in Little India area in Singapore (around Dunlop St). The MRT light rail from airport goes very near to Little India for about a dollar. Accomodation is expensive though - even a dorm bed will cost S$20-25.

I didn't stay in hostels, so I can't advise there. Sentosa is def a touristy stop, if you don't mind that, it'll be lots of fun! The MRT is amazingly easy to navigate and cheap too! Don't forget to turn your pass back in after each rail ride completion -- you get $1 sd back each time, makes the ride something like 80 cents or something.

24 Dec 2009 – Leave for KL at night will reach to KL at 7AM on 25 Dec 2009
25 Dec 2009- See KL
>> Have booked YMCA hostel in KL, he will also adjust my booking as per the days I will stay (may be 6 nights) @ rate of 85 MYR per night for twin room.
26 Dec 2009 – Leave for Penang (noon Flight) will reach to Penang in an hour.
>> YMCA Hostel in Penang is booked until 28 Dec 2009 @ rate of 85 MYR per night.
27 Dec 2009 – See Penang
28 Dec 2009 – Leave for KL (Noon Flight) will reach to KL in an hour
29 Dec 2009 – See Genting Highlands
30 Dec 2009 – See KL
31 Dec 2009 – See KL
1 Jan 2010 – Leave for Singapore (06.25 AM Flight) will Singapore at 07.15 AM. Go to Sentosa Island
>> HI Hostel is yet to be booked in Sentosa (Price is 130 S$ for twin room per night)
2 Jan 2010 – See Singapore
>> YMCA Hostel (Dormitory) is yet to be booked (Price is 40 S$ per night). Flight back to KL (10.50 PM Flight) will reach to KL at 11.50 PM
3 Jan 2010 – Leave from KL to Delhi (Noon Flight)


Cost of Flights:

Rs.16,000 for ND to KL & KL to ND tickets,
Rs.3200 for KL to SPOR & SPOR to KL tickets,
Rs.1000 for KL to Penang & Penang to KL tickets
= Total Rs.20,200


Cost of Hotel:

Rs. 8330 for 7 nights in KL (YMCA Hostel - Twin room),
Rs. 2240 for 2 nights in Penang (YMCA Hostel- twin room),
Rs. 1320 for 1 night in Singapore (YMCA Hostel - Dormitory),
Rs. 4000 for 1 day in Sentosa (HI hostel - Twin room)
=Total ~ Rs. 16,000
