Try to include Murudeshwar on the Karnatakan coast, it's only a slight de-tour, but well worth it.

The Shiva statue alone is worth seeing (in daylight and when it's lit up at night), but the laid-back feeling of the town is a great experience.

Photo of statue.

This statue stands 123 feet high, it is also perched on top of a small hill and surrounded by the sea on 3 sides (almost 3 sides), it is surrounded by other statues and a temple.

It is 'jaw-dropping' to look at during the day, but at night, when it's all lit up, it's mesmerising.

There are also 2 wonderful stories about the town, but I'm not going to give them away, you'll have to visit to find out.

Get to Murudeshwar before foreign tourists spoil it.

I was only there for 3 days, but could have stayed for a week, such was the charm of the place and it's people.

To think, I've yet to mention miles and miles of great beaches and the best view I've ever had from a hotel window.
