Mountain Biking Travel Buddy Wanted!
Hi,
I'll be landing in Delhi on Jan. 24th and plan on doing some bicycling in India. My route is flexible; spend a month or so in Rajasthan and head up into the mountains when it starts to heat up. Are you interested? Even if you're not interested in joining me, but have biked in India before please offer me any advice on the topic (good routes, essential bike-related Hindi, etc.) Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Hi BadgeRatch, I have done a little. I rented some cycles in Manali and went around. We went came down to Kullu and went up to Manikaran. That was more than four years back. I loved the experience but haven't found too many takers.
I can join you over a weekend with a friend of mine. Cheers Kaushiks |

mtb scene in india?
Hi
I won't be able to join you in jan i'm afraid but i'm planning to bring my mountainbike to india. i'd love to go biking in the north once but as i'm going to be working in andhra pradesh, close to B'lore i was wondering if there is something of a mtb scene in South India? I know for most indian people a bicycle is just a way of transportation and the idea of riding just for fun or sports may seem odd but some of the expats must 've brought there mtb's to ride awy the stress in the weekends? so anybody living around bangalore interested in a weekend ride let me know, i should be in india by next month... Badgeratch, here's a travelogue from a guy who mtb'd from india to the afghan border. don't knwo if it will be particularily helpfull for bicycle related stuff but definitely worth checking out... Have fun riding... |

Check this book out. The title; " Bombay to Bejing, By bicycle". Its a ten-month cycling story of a guy named Russel Mcgilton, its quite a funny read about his trials and tribulations on the road from India to China (3/4 of the book is based on his Journey through out Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh).
Great read, hope this helps. ![]() |

Hi Badgeratch, I am in my final stages of planning and purchasing a ticket any day now for a long tour around India and perhaps beyond. I"m looking for a ticket into Chennai in late Feb(24-28) and heading south into the path of the tsaunami. I'm not sure what I'll find when I get there(first time to India). I am slightly out of shape and am shooting for about 50k/day to start. This is a open ended journey with NO itinerary, just a few stops along the way...
![]() I am open to meeting and riding and taking in the culture, and that goes for anyone else reading this post, too. Let the journey begin(or is that continue...) Peace |

For reading up on bicycling around the world, Josie Dew's books are a fun read, she did India too. btw Mark Shand's two (I think?) books are great too of course, only he did it on elephant...

I will be travelling to India late this year and early next year for approximately 5 months, in that time I would like to cycle a variety of areas around India ... so anyone who is thinking about going to India and wouldn't mind cycling for part of it I'm on the lookout for partners and possibly willing to tailor my plans around getting one (female +India + cycling + alone = bad from what i hear)
PM me if you think you might be interested! |
