Hey Rohit

we did it about 2 years back, we took a bike and a mechanic, we drop off the bike at Leh and the mechanic will ride it back. But it costed us about 10k plus fuel 1,200 bucks. Last petrol bunk is Keylong after which no pumps for about 325km, there's a board that says that too.

there are quite a few guys in Manali, pretty much same rates and similar bikes. The one we took, i dont know the name but right next to the bridge closest to the main bus stop.

we took an enfield 500.. i dont remember the milege, we spent about 1200 bucks on petrol. but i vaguely remember my mechanic saying it gives about 25km/lt on average.

Agree with Praveen - Do not expect miraculous mileage on the route on rented bikes. 25-30 should be realistic and not too ambitious.

that cud happen too, there was another bike he suggested but said it might give less than 20 milege. do you plan to take a support vehicle or just bikes?

Than you should be good to go with some realistic mileage in mind. I guess you are right on 15-18 on your way up but it might average out to 20+ on a holistic calculation.

Did you get a chance to talk to the guy from Special tours?

ok, support vehicle wont be required actually but consider the mechanic option in that case. when we went, it was pouring crazy on Rohtang and even after that. our plan was to stop at Sarchu, but we cut short at Keylong coz Rohtang turned out to be a nightmare in the rains. The bike stopped couple of times coz some slush got into some electric wiring or something like that. Best person who knows the bike is the mechanic...

we biked just Manali-Leh and dropped the bike there and took a flight back to Delhi. We just covered the regular places, Lamayuru 1 day, 2 days for Pangong, made sure we spent the full moon night at the lake and was totally worth it. and another 2 days for Nubra and 2 more days for Leh in and around.
