Monsoon Trekking – Around Mumbai

Greetings everyone,

My first post here at Indiamike.com. The forum looks kind of busy here. Well, I was searching for a nature group or a partner to travel with, but it’s only for short durations. What I mean short duration is , weekend trekking

Weekend trekking because my job doesn’t allow me to take holidays anymore as I have finished all my paid leaves in Goa n around Goa this summer. Weekend trek could be anywhere close to pune or lonavala... may be somewhere in sahyadri range

Revert if any1 is interested or if any group is planning a trek on any of the upcoming weekends.

Amit

Hi feelfree82,

Welcome to Indiamike!

You must have downed 108 beers or something like it this summer in Goa, for which you wish have been granted.
The Girivihar Club of CBD Belapur is arranging a trek to Rajmachi next weekend (18th June), the meetup point is Lonavala ST Bus stand at 03:00 am on 18th. Or you can join the group departing from CBD at around midnight. You will find more about the group and trek here.
You can contact Abhijit Burman (Loves to be called 'Bong'), the mobile no is in the website, and he will most certainly include you.

See you around!

Anindya

Hey feelfree82 think you have been a member of this site for a pretty long time hope u will give me some inputs.

Moderator Note:

Please note that the site is a forum, so asking for responses from specific individuals kind-of defeats the object. You may get answers from anyone!

Of course, conversation is also part of the deal.

And... Welcome to the site

Tips for Rajmachi please

Around 5 of us were planning a trip to Rajmachi the next weekend from Mumbai. We are complete novices - any tips?

I heard that the Lonavla side is easier than the Karjat side - Also, what are the preferable timings to leave for the place? Is it do-able in one day?

The Explorers & Adventurers go out every weekend in the monsoon and every other weekend in the rest of the year. They are a non profit club who charge a yearly membership of 150 rupees (now maybe 200 ?? ) for the trekking circulars they post in advance.

You can join them on any outing. There is no cost payable to them per outing separately.

They meet every Wednesday evening at Milan Restaurant (mezzanine floor) from 18:30 to 20:00. Nagindas Gandhi marg, (old Meadows street) Flora Fountain, Mumbai. This restaurant comes before the turnoff for Hamam Street as you approach it from Flora Fountain.

They don't have a funtional website. You have to meet them in person. Ask for Vishwanath or Saraswati.

that really sounds great but the thing is we aren't getting any time till saturday afternoon, so it probably won't be possible to meet them.

If we could get some sort of rough itinerary we could hazard the trip on our own - at least this time 'round.

Thanks for all the help

Hello all..

I am planning to do a 1-day trek to some place near mumbai with friends.. possibly Naneghat (unless someone has a better recommendation). I am rather new to trekking, so was wondering if its possible to reach there (or any other place) say saturday evening and pitch a tent, and descend after sunrise? I wanted to know if -
1.its safe to stay overnight without any professional trekking group
2. its possible to rent a tent and backpack?

Otherwise, does anyone knows of any groups which would be going to overnight camping+trekking near mumbai in June?

Thanks!

Pitching tent in rains might not be the experiance that you are looking for. If you must, then the winter months are better suited than monsoon.
Throughout the Sahyadris most forts have some sort of cave / shelter where you can spend your nights without needing a tent.
All you need is
Carrymat
light sleeping bag (+15C)or bedsheet/shawl
Food for the night
Candles & flashlight
mosquito repellent spray/lotion

There are numerous groups in Mumbai organising treks, google trekking group+mumbai will get you the names and details

Cheers

I went to Rajmachi trek this sunday and lost way in between. We couldnt find ANY people while walking thru the forest and the way wasnt that clear. Finally found a nice trekking group who were going not to the top, but to the caves at a lower height. So finally we struggled along with them to find the caves. It was nice. Nature was beautiful with the rain, however, I would like to go again sometime with someone who knows the way, and reach the top this time..
