McLeod Ganj, 22nd -27th Nov

Hi,

I'm planning to headstart for McLeod Ganj from Delhi on 22nd Nov and wanted to throw in an option to all browsing through this post.

I'm almost alone(They may, But based on last experience not counting on any of my mates as recession sometimes demands you in office than on road) and would prefer traveling via my car/bus depending on your plan/preference.

My itinerary has ingredients like food, music and booze and can take me anywhere nearby depending on a good company.

I should be Ok with sharing travel costs from shoestring to mid budget accommodation or hangouts and would return to Delhi by above said date for my work.

I went for the first time two weeks ago .. will be glad to share what little I learnt ... if you know some locals well from other places where you have stayed it can help a lot

Would really appreciate your suggestions...If you could let me know...

1) Hot Spots to stay and hangout
2) Any clubs/parties (not sure though...can live without)
3) Arabic/Israeli Food Joints

1. This town is dominated by Budhist (Tibet Budhist) ambience and (if you like) trekking. So I am not sure what 'hot spots' as referred to in cities exist - if any. Thetown is a development from an army cantonment established by the British army - very similar to others in several other hill peaks in Himachel Pradesh. If you do not wish to spend time exploring the monastries, then walk. But it is along way to come for justtrekking. (If your budget is moderate - call the Asia Hotel - stay there and ask them for assistance. If budget is lower - go to the Dalai Llama monastery and on the walk down ask for the best book shop. It is run by a Tibetan Lady (and there is only one such shop) who if you can induce her into conversation can guide you to the better low cost places to stay and visit.)

2. There are a lot of falafel signs around - but I do not have any idea how good the israeli or arabic food is. However try the Asoka Hotel - small restaurant - that mad some top notch hummus for us. They may be able to make other 'israeli' dishes.

It will be cool. The days are warm but the winter nights are long ...... and not much happens till noon. Except meditation and walking.
