Hi Guys,

I too planned for the same trip in Jun/Jul 08, however, unfortunately I have to go abroad for a business trip and my arrival back in India is not certain. I have a Royal Enfield Thunderbird fully serviced and done up with luggage carrier and relevant spares for the trip. Any one planning later trips please get in touch with me at muthu1963@hotmail.com.

Regards

My plans....

I arrive Delhi on June 30th and plan to leave early morning on July 3rd for Leh. Plan to take 4 or 5 days for trip to Leh in order to diminish symptoms of AMS and to enjoy the scenery!

Glad to hear this. There are a lot of places that only see the angrezis zip by , and are worth seeing. My plan last year was among other things to stop in Sissu : had too good a time in Spiti , never made it , luxury problem..

My thoughts on the Manali-Leh road here : Sleepless in Sarchu : Tweaking the Manali-Leh Highway - not written from the biker perspective , but some useful stuff anyway.

Hello NewTraveller and Ishai:

I am considering doing a very similar motorbike trip around the same dates (latter part of July) and am quite flexible. NewTraveller, my hope is to also do something a bit more comfortable than absolute economy but to stick with a budget. I see that you're planning to rent an Enfield in Manali; have you found a suitable business? I'm torn between the classic Enfield experience and the reliable Honda trustworthiness

Manali to Leh, you will be needing a car with good ground clearance like a Scorpio. Manali has only small cars for local travel for hire. So Delhi or Chandigarh is the best bet.

Yogesh () it is really tough to get a cheap self drive rental car, unless of course you are in touch with people who provide cars to companies for lease. Otherwise it’s a costly affair; in fact you would be better off taking your own car to Ladakh or hiring a car with driver and then bribing him to let you drive it.

One of my friend took his Baleno to Ladakh in May-June, you can read his Ladakh travelogue here

I would like advice on the below
1. is it safe and recommended to do a solo biking though I am a good biker I do not have any knowledge of repairs.
2. Safety in terms of if I suffer from bike problems or AMS woudl i need someones help or I can still manage in dealing with things as there would be helpful people travelling and smaller places where I can get any support if required.

Lastly I am open to bike with people who are travelling on the same dates as long as I do not spoil their trip or vice versa coz I do not want to mess if different people of different likes and dislikes come together. But i seriously hope the beauty of teh place will be larger than to worry about ones likes and dislikes.

Though I am not planning a luxury style I am planning the trip to be a bit better than economy style. I am also flexible with travel dates to change a few weeks if recomended.

Thanks in advance

Hi Traveller. Your two concurrent threads have been merged here into one. Just a gentle reminder as well that posting the same question across multiple threads is not allowed (it causes double ups with replies - as happened with your two threads). Thanks for your help with this.
