Looking for some reassurance!

Hey there,
I'm from Australia and heading to India for 6 months at the beginning of June. I'm travelling with my boyfriend for the first month and then he's going home...
I'm not really looking for a travel companion but more for some reassurance that it'll be easy to meet travellers and that there will some around the North for me to hang out and talk to! I'm just a bit nervous of being lonely and scared at night.
Thanks!
I'm planning to do the North for about 3-4 months- apart from the Lonely Planet recommendations, are there any other areas that are a must to visit?
Thanks guys!

There are no musts. Not even India as such is a must. It all depends on what you are interested in.

Dont worry, all sorts of men wants to hang out and talk with you ;-)

I was recently in Hyderabad, Kanya Kumari and Chennai. Maybe I stayed in the wrong locations/hotels, because I did not meet many western looking people, but I didnt go looking for them either. Maybe it was just the wrong time of the year I travelled, outside major holidays.

There was a few mostly elderly people one or 2 days in Hyderabad, at a 3 star 1800 rupies hotel. I didnt talk to them, but I am male and okay with being alone, and I didnt want to impose on their grouping. I suppose a single woman will be different, unless it is a honeymoon you impose on.

In Chennai I did meet a young British couple in a 5 star 5800 rupies hotel, but she was there to work, and he was there for vacation. They was placed on the table next to me, and chatted me up. It was a nice experience and I did see some parts of Chennai with Kyle before I had to go home.

If you want to socialize and talk to people, dont hold back, do go and talk to them.

I dont know where you would meet most foreignors, it could be womens only hotel/hostels, cheap, middle or expensive hotels.

But I do think that you should try to setup something here on IndiaMike, because then you would at least have some sort of connection with them in advance.

Hi Austraveller9,

I can give you recommendations for the local expat hangout places in North India. Which place are you going to be in?

For Delhi:

1- Hauz Khas - nearly all cafes: very friendly atmosphere, you will find a lot of travellers and expats hanging around with a mixed age group.

2- Khan Market: Similar to Hauz Khas, the groups here are not as friendly as Hauz Khaz

This might be useless if you are somewhere in Uttar Pradesh/Varanasi.

Tell the city and the info will pour out. Indiamike is good at this

Don't worry loneliness and boredom are easily dispelled.

Cheers
