Looking for interesting shutterbug mates for a trek in June 2007

Hi,

This is a laid-back male, 26 working in a web startup, photography and jazz enthusiast, culture vulture and a foodie.

Looking to team up with like-minded people for a trek in mid/second half of June 2007.

Some places in Uttaranchal (Har ki Dun, Dodital, Valey of Flowers) are on radar but anything else that sounds breathtakingly beautiful and otherworldly would do.

Point of the trek is not going through rigor but being in a very beautiful place with my new D80.

If anyone is interested, I would love to talk.

We're coming to Delhi in January 08 - my partner is a professional photographer, we should definitely get together so you two can say hi. Although it looks like he won't be taking his SLR and will be experimenting with a smaller fixed lens digital, haven't worked out which one yet! We're mid-discussion about it all, but we'll see.

not taking his slr...? i think he'll regret that. i take a small pocket camera, along with an slr. that way i don't have to always lug a camera around, but when i go to certain places, (i feel) that an slr is a must. i got comprehensive insurance on mine, so no matter what happened to it, even if i dropped it, it would be insured. so, nothing to worry about. the only thing that did happen was that i got some astounding photos...

Well the thing is - apart from lugging crap around, is that if he's not going to change lenses or shoot in raw then there's not much point taking the SLR - for 5 weeks I really don't want to bother with storage for raw images and he usually only uses one lens anyway. The other thing is that we're kind of trying to make it not a photography trip - maybe he can actually experience things rather than just shoot them!!!!!!!! Well that's my point of view. Oscar and I are a bit sick of standing around while he frames the perfect shot...

He is a very good photographer - and when you go back and look at the images people shot on box brownies, it could be an interesting experiment for him to push himself into more spontaneous and less technical ways. It's an ongoing discussion - although it pisses me off when he says 'how much stuff are you taking, do you really need this or that..' and his camera weighs a ton and has to be 'looked after'. Can't be chucked in the bag or put in a pocket or on the belt.

I know there's insurance, but it is a work camera and if something happened and the insurance didn't pay out or there was a delay we'd be stuffed!!!!

well, i can hear that you're not crazy about taking a trip with a photographer. i understand that completely. i travel alone, but when i travel with people that i meet, i sometimes wish that i didn't precisely for the reason that you mention, others waiting around for me. and i don't want to feel rushed, but i do if someone is waiting on me.

and, in the end, great photos can be taken with any camera (i even argued this on the site some time ago). the first time i went to india i took some great pix with a point and shoot (non-digital) canon. now i use digital exclusively, but i don't shoot raw. maybe one day, but i don't wanna do all that post-processing.
