Searching IM for Ladakh produces 2981 hits. Perhaps a good idea to start screening these ....

MonkeyBoy4u is right , if you want to do the full circuit , then next available window starts from May 2010 end , by that time Rohtang should again reopen , unless you want to do it immediately within the next 2 weeks of course !!!
Do you plan to drive to and fro from Kolkata the whole way or is your plan to reach HP or J&K and hire a vehicle from there ? In case you plan to do the former , you will probably need a sturdy SUV , preferably with either part or full time 4WD.If this is actually what you want to do , check the second link in my earlier post. By the way , the pictures posted on both threads will make out yearn to leave immediately. You can check the BCMtouring site as well , great threads and snaps of Ladakh there as well. So what "antlami" lurks behind that name ??? |

Firstly.....thank you all for your replies. Second....I think I should re-phrase the question I asked.
This idea of motoring to Laddakh is lurking for a long time and today I sat down and decided to do something about it. Within first few minutes in the net I came across this great site and posed the question. Its true that I can probably google out most of the information needed to plan a road trip. Nevertheless, what I was really looking for is a gang (group of people I mean!!) who would be interested to do such a trip and I have no idea how to go about that and hence the question in the forum. Also, and to be honest, I admit that I got a bit lazy and thought this would be less taxing on me than to google out the information....wink. Wayfairer: thanks for the info again. And havent done any "antlami" in a long time.........although I am tempted ![]() Monkey Boy: Thanks for the info. |

Santos: Sorry for being vague......but actually thats waht it is. From the earlier posts its appears that June will be the time to go........about 10 days (is it enough?)........dont know about the budget (I usually avoid "cheap" places.
Basically....the whole thing is starting from scratch.....any takers? |

You are right Monkey boy. I think I should take this up around April/May next year. In the mean time will try to find any other group going to himalayas (just love the mountains and wilderness)

I think there are four areas in ladakh you need to cover 1)lamayaru,alchi,zanskar going upto srinagar via kargil, zojila 2)nubra valley crossing the khardung la. 3)pangong tso crossing changla 4)tso moriri on way to manali. basically people start from manali spend two days on road reach leh.they use next two days to arrange inner line permits and visit shey thikse and hemis.the next two days people go to hunder ,some go to pangong some go to alchi ,lamayaru.Note all these can be done in day.Meaning each of them pangong, alchi or hunder. Basic cost taxi for alchi, lamayaru from leh=6000 taxi for pangong =5000-6000 extra if you need overnight stay taxi for hunder-6000-7000 extra if you need to stay in hunder taxi for manali via tsomoriri -13000 otherwise-12000 only leh taxis are allowed for local sightseeing. And only prepaid cell works in J and K . You pretty much get accomodation in all places except pangong. Thats all i guess .let me know if you have questions.this should help you prepare itenary, cost and days. Have a great trip |
