June 2010 Backpacking from Mumbai. Need 5 more.
In June 2010, I and a group of friends (ages 20-23) are going on a trip to India. There are 5 of us in all (1 guy, 4 girls) and we're hoping to get 5 more people.
The itinerary is as follows: Mumbai -> Udaipur -> Jaipur -> Jodhpur -> Jaisalmer -> New Delhi - > Khajuraho -> Raurkela - > Raipur - > Nanded - > Mumbai We'll arrive June 1st in the afternoon, and leave June 30th in the Afternoon. The guy in our group is Indian, so we've got someone who knows our route pretty well. We'd like to find people in our age group to go on this trip. The reason we want 5 more people is so we can get a group discount on our trip. We'd prefer a few more males in the group. So please, if anyone is interested...let me know... |

Out of curiocity, why the above places, and how will you travel from Khajuraho through to Nanded?
They're not on the usual tourist route, and not easily connected. |

Yes ! Rourkela has nothing, except hot & sultry climate and a huge Steel Plant...in Orisaa Puri & Konark are better options...
Raipur, is also a non descript town of Chhatisgarh. Bastar would have been a better choice in that state. Nanded is famous only for a Gurudwara, nearby Ajanta & Ellora are better choices..... All the above suggestions, if you don't have any special thing to do in these towns....like meeting relatives/friends.

The itinerary is still under work. Changes can always be made. I really just added those towns by examining a map, and yes...the Indian with us is not a travel agent. He's a friend.
We were either going to take a bus or rent a car for the more difficult places to get to. Raurekela, Raipur, and Nanded can be removed. Sure Pushkar and Ranthambore can be added. The only non-negotiable places are Mumbai (where our plane is arriving and departing) and Khajuraho. Ticket price per person will be with economy super saver, around $700. That's the cheapest we've found so far. It's subject to change. http://travel.yahoo.com/trip-view-18...EFFemoXvScItAF That's my itinerary so far on Yahoo travel. If Yahoo doesn't list a place we're going in a city, it will be in the notes on said city. We don't want to go to too many really tourist-poppulated areas. The less tourists there, the better. |

Ranranami,
Except Rourkela, Raipur & Nanded, all th eplaces selected by you are heavily touristy places.....but good for first time visitors... for not so touristy places, you'll have plenty of other opportunities..... |

You really need to do a detailed thread on indiamike about your Itinerary, and you need to think seriously about going to Rajasthan in June.
I would be absolutely amazed if 5 foreigners made it through Rajasthan in June without at least one having serious problems with the heat, and what do the rest of you do if one person simply can't take the heat....or worse, I accept that San Antonio may get really hot, but can the heat be compared to Rajasthan? Your route through Rajasthan should also be changed, and I see you'll be passing through Agra without visiting the Taj Mahal. If you decide on Rajasthan, then maybe the following may be a better route. Mumbai Udaipur (visiting Kumbhalgarh & Ranakpur on the way to...) Jodhpur Jaisalmer Jaipur Then train to Chandigarh for connecting train to Shimla (via Kalka) Then a few places in the hills ending in Haridwar/Rishikesh. Delhi Agra Khajuraho Orchha Mumbai |

Ranranami,
I am interested in joining your trip.I dont have much of a preference when it comes to places to visit and anywhere in India will do.I am just looking at taking a month off after college and I would prefer doing it with a group rather alone. And june fits perfectly.lemme know what you think. |
