I'm on holiday through December. Here's my itinerary:

28Nov: Chennai-Pune (21hrs)
28Nov-11Dec in Pune
11Dec: Pune-Bangalore
12-16Dec in Bangalore
16Dec: Bangalore-Varanasi (via Chennai - 44hrs)
18-25Dec in Varanasi
25Dec: Varanasi-Chennai (38hrs)

I have company for the Pune-Bangalore leg, but there's a few longish trips I wouldn't mind having someone to chat with on. If we hit if off, I'd be happy to show you around Pune/Bangalore/Varanasi/Chennai, as I live in all these places.

I'm a student, so I usually travel by sleeper on trains. In December it's a smart idea to carry along a sleeping bag that can double up as a blanket. It's lovely getting the winter breeze streaming in, though maybe I feel this only because I miss the winters of North India now that I'm in Chennai much of the time. But I don't mind booking three-tier AC if someone's particular, for the sake of company.

And if someone's wondering about the weird itinerary, Bangalore is on it because my aunt's getting married. And an Indian-American wedding in South India is hard to pass up As, for that matter, is a chance to be with a local around Xmas time in Varanasi. I live a stone's throw from the biggest church!

I'm travelling India solo in December too. Landing in Delhi on the 6th. Spending about a month in this wonderous country

My itinerary is pretty flexible but Rajasthan is a must and I'll either work my way towards Kolkata or Kochi as these both are destinations where I can get cheap departure flights...Defo keen for hunting down some psytrance at Goa for nye too XD

Hey Terrafractyl,

Looks like your plans could sync with landing up in Varanasi sometime after 20th Dec. I'm looking for someone to do the trip to Chennai with on 25th night (after an Xmas party). If things work out somewhat like this for you, we could meet up in Varanasi. I'm familiar with the city and there for about a week - wouldn't mind introducing you to some friends and places.

Chennai/Pondicherry/Bangalore are fairly good options for new year's, and Kochi is pretty close from these. Varanasi-Chennai is a day-and-a-half ride, and I usually travel by sleeper (love it!). We could discuss modalities if you're up for the plan.

I will be traveling for sure for most of December and I've not yet finalized on a destination or itinerary. I am sure I can have a few of my friends (girls as well as guys, if that is a concern) join in by then. Yay! It seems like alot of you will end up in Goa for Xmas and New Years. Can't wait! It should be epic.

I am now in the state of Tamil Nadu. Will spend a month here, then make my way to Kerala before I head to Goa for Xmas and New years.

If you're flying into India from NZ, perhaps you'll be landing in Chennai. ganjf (Emily) and I might possibly be meeting on 25th; you could join us in case you're here that early. I'm taking a train out of Chennai on 27th night, at 22:50hrs. The train goes to Mumbai, though I shall deboard at Pune, which is 3/4 hours before Mumbai, but would be glad to have company for the 24hr ride.

I'm about a decade younger than you, a student, male, Indian, but if that's not a problem then let me know. There are currently 39 sleeper berths available on the train. I've booked non-ac but the weather will be pleasant. I might consider switching classes/trains for the company, but would like to leave on 27th/28th. This one reaches Mumbai at 4am, which you might be uncomfortable with, but on the other hand it might suit you, since you have only a fortnight in India.
