First Time Travelling To India- Feb 28th 2010 Onward! Dates Flexible! Travel Partner?

Hello,

I am a 20 year old female (will be 21 by february, 2010),from Canada, and I am looking to go to India for the first time... but I would like to find a female travel partner. So here are a few things about the kind of trip I want...

I want to tour North India, and places I want to visit include (but may not be limited to...)...and in no particular order-

Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur...etc...

Not sure yet if I want to go to Mumbai... and Goa disinterests me as of now simply because all I hear about it is that it has naked beaches etc... But i may still go there if I find that it has something real to offer..

As for the travel style itself... I have seen some really gorgeous hostels and other kinds of places to stay, and I will not settle for staying in a low-class, low end place; just because some people are cheap... I want to remain healthy for my stay, and as well make the best of it; which is why I will not purposefully subject myself to the worst accommodations in all of India, that even Indians themselves wouldn't stay in!

That being said, travel style and other things don't really matter as of now, and those you can't really bargain on- and I wouldn't mind a few rickshaw rides etc... that I am fine with.

As a person, I do not drink, smoke, or do any of those kinds of things; and therefore am not the type to just want to go to India just to get "smashed" or anything like that.

I want my experience to be real, memorable etc... so would appreciate someone who does not have those bad habits as well.

Those are the only things I am sticky on, and other than that, I am easygoing for anything and anywhere and basically will visit India and just go with the flow and see as much as possible!

As for the travel dates, I would really like to go during Holi- but I am not sure how my finances will be. I am planning to save up quite a bit for this trip, so as to make the most out of it...

So I may not be able to make it during holi, but definitely as mentioned, the dates are flexible, and the Latest I will go, I think is in June, 2010.

So, let me know if you are interested, and please FEMALES only...

Hello acrasial, and welcome to the site!

Why do you want to visit India during Holi? If you are a little unsure of yourself, it is perhaps not the best time to visit, since there are likely to be marauding inebriated gentlemen dancing in the streets. It is the one time in the year when licentious behavious is condoned.

There are several threads on IndiaMike describing the festivities. You may wish to think again.

If, on the other hand, you were to party with Indian friends in private, Holi could be a fantastic experience. However, I really don't think it is the right time for you, given your prickliness about intoxication.

Nude beaches? What have you been reading? India does not have any nude beaches. Topless in Goa? Maybe. But you do not have to frequent the minority of places where tourists behave as if they were anywhere except India. For great nude beaches, come to Greece. In fact, for great beaches, come to Greece.

Anyhow, you basically wish to see the major sights of the Golden Triangle, which should not be too difficult. There is a wealth of information here on IndiaMike, so take your time to browse through it. Even if you arrive in Delhi solo, you will surely soon meet up with other travellers, female or male, with whom you would strike up a rapport. In fact, travelling alone makes it even easier to meet other young travellers like yourself. Take courage and enjoy!

theyyamdancer===> yes thankyou! It is hard to know sometimes who is male or female here... as I am not familiar with alot of Sanskrit names... and even other names as well...

I had an encounter earlier, where I replied to someone's thread post, and that person's name was supposedly a man's and yet on their profile it stated they were female!

In the end, apparently they were a man, and might have been letting their wife use their profile for posting?

But this is sure irritating that some people treat this website like a dating site... and it's not just this forum- its every forum where someone from another country posts...!

It's ridiculous- guys- if you want a GIRLFRIEND go find one on a dating site! OK!?

Calm down girl! Really, this is a very friendly site. Just take some time to read around the different threads. You might like to start with the Beginners Section before anything else. Then take a look at the regional forums for the places you are planning to visit.

If you find yourself losing your temper already before setting foot abroad it doesn't bode very well for the trip! (Joke.)

Your user name, by the way, means "bad-tempered". Is that correct?

theyyamdancer;====>

Thankyou for the welcome, but definately I would consider "topless" to be a nude beach, as removing your top in my city and country is considered to be a crime, if you are a female... thus I do in fact consider that a form of nudity...

Perhaps you are right about Holi... the reason I wanted to come, was because I really took a liking to the whole Idea of the Festival, the colors and everything else- but yes, I have in fact read all kinds of nasty and perverted things men can do during that time...

I have also heard some of them... as for Indian friends?

I am afraid anyone whom I know that is of Indian descent, wishes not to travel with me to India- and told me NOT TO go... So they are definitely out of the picture.

As for the prickliness- I am against the use of drugs, and other such things as well... during such time- alongside smoking too... It's just nasty and they are bad choices and habits which people allow to get the better of them...

I am not looking for a nude beach dammit!!!!... so I am still not sure what anyone means here?!

And I am extremely disliking people trying to tell me to go elsewhere, I made up my mind- and I AM GOING to India... because it's where I want to go.

I am not sure how you just walk into India and meet fellow travelers... Delhi has 19+ million people...sounds kindof impossible, when you think about it.

As for being this way, people seem to think I am pissed off, angry, upset etc...

But I do in fact type and debate quite well.

If something doesn't suit me, or make sense to me, I sure will discuss it.

Other people take that as having an attitude problem, or in need of anger management etc etc...

But I understand this just as a misunderstanding- as people often attack the things which they do not comprehend.

Since the OP has clearly changed her plans, this thread is now closed.

(Oh, and for future reference, we're usually happy to help with editing and/or deleting - you just have to ask )
