finances for 4 month stay

assuming i spend three weeks travelling through southern india in july with a buddy, going the cheap way

and then spend 3.5 months up in Ladakh (housing provided) until end of october/early november
and take alot of weekend trips to northern india

would $3,000 be enough for all of this?

thanks everyone

We spent 4000 euro in 23 weeks for TWO people! We travelled second class train, AC class, local bus, and a lot of taxis!!
So $3000 should be enough for four months for one! If you budget your funds!!

Hi - I am being nosy - I was just wondering what you were going to do in Ladakh for 3.5 months, and how you will pass your time ?

see , in big cities , accomodation will range from 300-500 bucks
in small cities , around 250-350

food can be like 200 per person. add in 25-30 for mineral water (pp)

really? thats not 2400 each. its between us.
i hadn't realised that was so much. i think we'll have 900 rps a day each. and from what ive read here thats enough to live comfortably. however i dont think il be wasting my money staying in fancy hotels and eating in posh places. id rather stay in budget, and spend my money on more important things. we've also saved up some extra money to give to a charity when we get there. any reccomendations?

??? The Siddhartha school isn't for "monklets" - it's not a monastic school and it's co-ed

mm yes, it is co-ed, and is a non-monastic school. it was founded by the monk Geshe-Tsetan so i just like to call the students monklets-- it is innacurate, tis true.
i will be volunteeing (possibly) in a nunnery, however, as well. in which case i guess "monklets" is more appropriate =O)

how do you know of the school? have you worked (voluinteered) with them/ any other school or monastery?

Nope, never volunteered there. My knowledge of the place is just part of the vast store of random and generally useless info that's stuffed in my head.

ya we ended up coming home with 800 euro left over. and we went crazy with our money for the last 2 weeks. we didnt even think about cost. which was fun, since ive been living on 40 euro a week for 3 years. we even had enough left over for a holiday in amsterdam. we could've spent a lot less, but any money you bring home, isnt going to go very far here.
