I'm in goa 11th April just for a few weeks. I am 21 female travelling alone. i plan to go to Hampi for a few days wondered whether anyone else is in Goa around the same time as me or anyone that is planning to go to Hampi the same time as me. let me know I would love to meet up with people
If anyone has been to Goa wondered whether you know any good places to go where i may meet other travellers since I'm by myself

Hi Liz,
I just got back from Goa. I travelled with my boyfriend and we didn't meet as many people as we would have liked, unfortunately. I think it's much easier to meet people when travelling on your own.

The Hotel Panaji is a good place. There were a lot of solo diners in the restaurant and we ended up all chatting because the wait for the food was so long there wasn't anything else to do while sitting there. The staff is also very friendly and some people just ended up hanging out in the lobby. If you get lonely you could always take an organized tour as you're almost certain of meeting people on one of those (but see my end of season comment at the end of this post).

As far as beaches are concerned, I went to Benaulim and Anjuna. Benaulim was nice and relaxing but there weren't a whole lot of tourists even though I was there in late Feb. Benaulim seemed to attract mostly families and older couples. I went to Anjuna in late March while the season was winding down and there were a lot more young people. There also seemed to be quite a few people who were there for the long haul, as there were a lot of westerners talking about renewing their 5 year visas and looking forward to the end of the season so they could take some time off from running their businesses.

The problem you may run into in mid-April is that the season will be pretty much over by then. I talked to some Indian women in Anjuna who live there year 'round, and they told me that most stuff in the town shuts down after the season. A lot of hotels, restaurants and shops close. They said only two restaurants stay open in Anjuna plus the general stores. I do know Villa Anjuna stays open year 'round (I wrote that one up in the hotel section). Maybe a more seasoned expert than me could give more details on when exactly the season ends, but I know in late March things were already really winding down.

My boyfriend just chimed in to say "tell her it's going to be really hot". True of both Goa and Hampi in fact. He found both places pretty much unbearable at the end of March without a/c, but then he's a wuss from bone-chilling northern England. I'm from the southern US and was fine with the heat, at least most of the time :-).

i am in gokarna right now (south of goa) and i am planning to leave asap for the north because it is absolutely stifling here, not to mention i seem to be the only tourist in south india at this time. i don't suggest going south now. i am headed to varanasi soon, then darjeeling, then to nepal. if you are interested in meeting up along the way let me know.

I was in India at this time of year and even Varanasi was the hottest temperature I have ever endured anywhere in the world.

Head as far north as you can!
