Maoists were not to be seen anywhere ... their old slogans & symbols still remained everywhere though. Will checkout & correct the labels ... I was hoping one or two others would identify Best-10 Pics from the Jiri Namche SET (so i could have viewer's consensus-10 on one a page in blog)... |

details
Hello Ks sir, I have following this thread and got lot of information from your experience. Thank you for that. I am planning a EBC trek in Feb/march 2007. Could you please give me some details on how to book for hotels and porters etc. If you can give us the hotel phone no or travel agency it would be great.

Wouldn't Feb/March be a bit early ??? ... of course, if you don't mind the cold/snow it should be OK, I guess. I am told people do the EBC/Kalapthar all year round! Hotels: I stayed at Garuda Hotel in Thamel ..they can be contacted by email at: garuda@mos.com.np I did my trek & porter arrangements thru a Agency in Thamel, Kathamandu called Nepal Montanas Treks & Expeditions (tel: 4261114) whose main sales Manager Mr Puru Timalsena mobile: 9841-330819 ... he can be contected by email at: puru@nepalguidetrek.com Of course there are many hundred of Hotels in Thamel, KTM and Hundreds of Trekking Agencies ... best is to reach there 1-2days before and make all arrangements on the spot locally. I would suggest you buy and read Lonely Planet's Guide Book Trekking in the Nepal Himalayas ... It costs about Rs 1000/- or so .... but provides answeres to every question any one can ask ... and answers many more questions than one can think to ask. It is a valuable guide and lists all hotels and tel nos in Kathmandu and even on trek routes.... KS - KS |

Thank you sir for the details. Yes we are planning little early, we thought we might avoid crowds if we go in the cold. Anyway are you up for killimanjaro in 2008 summer?

If i remember right, all places beyond Namche-Bazar (*) have no regular electricity ..... but they do have solar powered low-wattage bulbs in the the GH bed-rooms (you can see your stuff and move about in the room in that low wattage; but cannot read a book
) ... Most GH dining-halls have pretty bright tube-lights with which you can read books or see maps in the late evenings. You can also charge Camera batteries from the solar power points in the Dining Halls, by paying NRs 150 to 400 per hour depending on distance from Namche. (*) i.e. Tengboche, Debuche, Dingboche, Pheriche, Dughla, Lobuche, Gorakshep an dother smaller villages in between. |
