Delhi/North India in September

Right,

I'm really a complete newbie to backpacking, but after having a tiny taster of it last summer, I've decided to jump in head first and book a round the world trip. Not only that, but I'm going in at the deep end by travelling by myself and starting it all in Delhi, India!

I'll be touching down there in September (the 12th), and other than having pre-booked a couple of nights in Paharganj as well as an onward flight from Nepal on October 23rd (to Thailand), I'm pretty much entirely open to suggestion. I've bought an LP guide and have some idea of the places I'd like to see (of India: Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan). However, I'm keeping my trip flexible as well as remaining as laid back as possible, as I've heard so much about what India can do to well planned itineries.

If anyone would like to join me at any point on my journey, please feel free to contact me!

Cheers guys

J

You sound like the adventurous kind. Why not buy a Royal Enfield motorcycle and hit the road. Drive it to Nepal when you're ready and sell it there. Warning though, death is always just around the corner on these roads. Be very careful.

Blimey, that would be fantastic. However, I've only got the standard car driving licence, so that's probably not an option

You don't need a motorcycle licence in India. Your drivers lic. will do just fine.

I would suggest you to go for a good travel tour company. Rajasthan is a treat for eyes. Though South is best in October, you might not have that much time.

Try the Same day tour to Jaipur Agra or Haridwar or Rishikesh.

On riding an Enfield or anything else without experience, try also Papers when buying a Motorbike.

The "Wheels" forum here should have plenty more on it.

Cheers peeps. I'll give the Wheels forum a looksee. Sounds like a mad idea, but then so is this trip (in a good way, of course!) Am also still on the lookout for anyone who'll be in the neighbourhood whilst I'm there. If anyone fancies a drink say around Delhi, drop me a PM!

Err, YES U DO!
Please do not spread false info. It is illegal to drive a 2-wheeler on a 4-wheeler licence, and vice-versa anywhere in India (we are talking about the law here). Unless your licence is endorsed for both types. And overseas licence holders are by law required to hold an Intl Driver Permit from their home country.
So much for the law. U no doubt mean that "you don't need a m/cycle licence (or ANY licence for that matter) becos u will never or hardly ever be checked, and if u are, producing any valid licence will (probably/hopefully) do, but of course there are no guarantees for that."

Yes, much better.
