Chennai Dec 09

I'm visiting some relatives in Chennai in Dec 09 and will be there for about a month, would like some information on:

- prepaid mobile: procedures required to get a SIM Card, best provider etc?

- prepaid internet: who offers this? How do I get it organised? I'll probably be bringing my laptop, and the place I'm staying at will have a landline

- Places to go: I'm not very keen on touristy locations, but I'd like to know of nice cafes/restaurants, shopping, just regular things I can do

- also, I'm 25 female, so if you're around the same age (and female) and visiting family in chennai around the dec period, and would like a shopping companion or just someone to hang out with, pls yell out

AIrcell will be best , since you have relatives ask them to get one sim card for u, they will get card in their name and use it,

Ask relatives whether they have internet or not, if yes then better invest in wifi router, so that you can access internet from home anywhere, or reliance and tata provides wireless internet but that surely will SUCK big time.

Already might be available in Chennai forum. Please search Chennai forum

I am only same age 25 but I am not female.

And since you have relatives you need to worry at all.

My relative is an 80 year old and her younger sister is 70ish so I doubt she's got the internet, and I don't see her taking me out much. Which is why I need to find things to do for a month.

Will check out the wireless options, thanks very much!

Wireless internet will be costly and if it SUCKS then you gonna repent, better ask them which landline they are having, if it is BSNL then you can take broadband but then you will need to keep it minimum for 3 months or else use prepaid internet but that prepaid will be dialup. There are lots of options available, if wireless works for you then you might invest around 3K in the modem and monthly rent may go around 1K. Once you come to India, you have many options.

Reliance and Tata, and as per your area, you might also have Cable Internet Service Providers.
