Anyone want to share a car (Udaipur to Jodhpur)?

Hi,

Thanks to all the messages posted on this subject, i realized that the best way to get from Udaipur to Jodhpur is hiring car&driver for the trip, which allows the visit to Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh as well, plus i read that the route is quite a scenic one.
Since i'm travelling alone it would be nice to find some other fellow traveller/s interested in sharing the costs (i came across another post with a quote for 2800Rs).
Also interested in ride share to Chittorgarh (don't know how much is the average cost yet).
I'll be in Udaipur on the 23rd of November.

What is the day you want to travel from Udaipur to Jodhpur?

Someone may want the car for the return journey the following day, another way of sharing the cost.

I was planning to spend a couple of days in Udaipur, possibly visiting Chittor on the second day and then leave on the 25th for Jodhpur.

took that journey a few days ago myself ... very scenic but a good eight hour white knuckle ride if you can face it! It cost me R3,000 but probably could have got it cheaper. Indian Airlines do fly for about $60 I think, and the flight takes 45 minutes. That is certainly the more relaxing option, if not the cheaper! Good luck!!!

I was quoted 2500Rs for the same journey just 10 days ago. Ended up skipping Ranakpur/Kumbhalgarh though and just got a sleeper bus.

The flight sounds attractive i have to admit, but i really wanted to see the other two locations as well and the car seems to be the best way considering both time and money.
By the way, do happen to know whether the car trip allows enough time to spend visiting Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh?

the car trip literally took us 8 hours door to door and any visits en route would have to be added to this timescale.

A word of warning about the flight though. The reason that we didn't try to push too hard on the cost of our taxi is that we were actually stranded at the airport at the time, having just had a taxi ride from the centre of Udaipur to catch our flight. As we found every time we tried to use Indian Airlines, the info on the website was wrong as to timing, and whilst we had an eticket which said the flight left U' at 6-45pm, it didn't actually leave til 11 the next morning!!! In desperation we asked our driver (who was still waiting outside) whether he would drive us which he agreed to do for R3,000 but no less. If you do decide to fly, then, DOUBLE CHECK that the Indian Airlines times are right. We tried to use them 3 times on our trip, and never did we actually manage to get on one of their planes because of preponements/delays on their scheduled timings!!! I would recommend Jet Airways in preference ANY TIME, but I'm not sure they do that route.

Falna is about 40 Kms from Ranakpur, you can get a train from Falna to Jodhpur.

Use your taxi then allow it to go back to Udaipur from Ranakpur or Falna, it will half the taxi cost.
(as you have to pay the driver for the return trip from Jodhpur)


Train 4708 departs Falna daily at 06:03 and gets to Jodhpur at 10:05 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Train 9111 departs Falna daily at 16:58 and gets to Jodhpur at 20:05 (2A, SL.)

2-tier air con (2A) = Rs 472
3-tier air con (3A) = Rs 281
Sleeper class (SL) = Rs 121 (not air con)



Going the other way (in case anyone is interested).

Train 9112 departs Jodhpur daily at 06:15 and gets to Falna at 09:53 (2A, SL.)

Train 4707 departs Jodhpur daily at 15:15 and gets to Falna at 18:33 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Bailin, Ranakpur is an amazing site and we only saw the main temple because we were in a hurry to get to Udaipur to see the Monsoon Palace, at dusk.

I could spend 4-5 hours at Ranakpur just gazing at those temples. They are truly unique. We missed Kumbhalgarh but we'll be back Mar 2006 to check it out.

Does anyone know if there are buses going from Udaipur to Ranakpur?

I don't know if the info are updated and reliable. Hope it helps.
