Well, parts of India can be fantastic in the monsoons, but perhaps not with small kids in tow.

have you ever tried chasing the rains???
in bangalore, sometimes it is/was possible to do that - as the showers sometimes can be cloud bursts!
and as the wind shifts the cloud - so rain shifts too!

Chasing the rains sounds like fun. In Mumbai in recent years it either pours like buckets, or remains hot as hell for days !!! We should really start conserving rain water on a war footing. There is more than adequate rain fall to compensate for the dry season, if only we made an effort to conserve it. I'm going off on a tangent now.

Re: Orchid pics. Thanks. Ive got plenty more, I go beserk with my camera everytime a bud opens, even if it is the most humble of flowers. There are some fantastic photos posted by our members in the Photo section, Ive just started going through them recently.

a decade ago - walked the length and breadth of kolkata during the monsoonal downpours! just for the heck of it

really looking forward this year - to walk the carter rd causeway to the bandstand in the torrential downpour.
this strip being next to the sea - oofff its going to be positively wonderous!

waiting to do a trip to alibaug too during the monsoons!!!

Kamaldeep: The satellite image is quite accurate as its updated every few hours, certainly better than the TV weather forecast !

In a different way. Squalls and rain at sea can be visible from sometimes 20 miles or more away, and on radar too.

In the good old days of limited fresh water, standing instructions, day and night were- In case you saw a squall, intercept it, and call the crew out and soap and hardbrush as much of the deck and superstructure that you could manage to do.


Back on topic, the met department says so far that monsoons are 4 days early. Hope there is no pressure system buildup to delay this- its hot.

yes i agree bt i think that the people who read the weather forecast on TV also get the details from the Met department ... the source i guess is only one
