Tourism gets a boost

The government will develop 100 heritage circuits for tourists by the end of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Of these, 25 are expected to be of international standard.

That's indeed a great step by the Govt. towards promoting tourism but considering the current fiscal scenario, what impact will the dramatic rise in Rupee have on the influx of tourists? Just a thought!

Would India still be known as an adventurer's paradise? But yeah, good on the government, I think India needs more tourists.

Sadly, I read these kind of stories every week via Indian Railway news feeds, little ever happens.

Similarly, I think almost all states in India are starting their own 'Palace on Wheels', these also never happen.

However, Karnataka claim their 'Palace on Wheels' train* will start operating on December 1st this year, I read this a couple of days ago and can find the news item if anyone is interested.

*I nearly sent the reply with 'POW train'.

Announcements and intentions are two-a-penny to politicians.

We wait to see if they do anything....

In the 1980's India Tourism announced a second "Golden Triangle" based on the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, the Jagannath Temple in Puri and the Surya Temple at Konark.
Let's hope there's more sensible proposals this time.
This didn't come off as travel agents didn't relish telling tourists that they should travel thousands of miles just to peer over the walls of the "no foreigners allowed" temples in Puri and Bhubaneswar!
