Thumbs up The Rising Of Kolkata

Thanks to the initiatives of the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee of West Bengal, Kolkata is poised for tremendous growth and changes in her skyline. He has rolled out the red carpet for the Salim Group from Indonesia -

He has cited the examples of China, another country that follows the policy of communism. Due to this bold step, he has earned praised from the Prime Minister Sri Man Mohan Singh. In this connection, an incident of the early fifties deserves mention – it was in the time of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the first Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was a practicing doctor. One day he rang up Barrister Sri Snehangshu Acharya, who was the Communist leader. Dr. Roy told him frankly that he needed three lakhs of rupees to procure a Radio Therapy Treatment machine for the Chittaranjan Cancer hospital. He also informed him that his own coffers as well as the coffers of the Government were empty. He requested Sri Acaharya to find a solution. And – Sri Acharya did just that: he mortgaged his house on Baker Road to a Bank and handed over the cash to Dr. Roy. In those days, leaders rose above party politics when service to the masses was involved. (This is reported in a letter in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ columns of the Ananda Bazar Patrika dated 24th August 2005).

The decisions of the present Chief Minister needs to be supported by one and all. Opposing just for the sake of opposing needs to be stopped – the electorate is now more educated, they can very easily see through the drama. For the betterment of the state that was once in the forefront Sri Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee needs support from all quarters.

CPI(M) enjoys being free-marketers in Kolkata while in Centre they are drumming on their old school policies. Good news for Kolkata and kudos to Buddhadeb Bhattacharji.

.......... He must have been impressed by the glittering Changi airport — who isn’t? Soon, he told his hosts he too wanted a spanking new airport in Kolkata. Someone asked him whether 50% FDI participation would be allowed in the airport. Buddha stunned the gathering of leading businessmen — assembled by the Intitute of South Asian Studies and the Singapore-Indian Chamber — with his reply: "Why 50%? I say private companies are welcome to take 100% equity in such projects." For new projects, like the second airport in Kolkata or new ports, there would be no ceiling on FDI, he clarified.
