The Boy From Lambata released

Garhwal Post (Dehradun)
October 3-9, 2004

Dehradun: 'The Boy from Lambata' is memoirs of a combat cameraman and documentary filmmaker, Narayan Singh Thapa. Research organization 'Pahar' has published the book, which was released by prominent filmmaker Shyam Benegal in Mumbai recently.
NS Thapa was born in 1924 at village Marh Manley in district Pithoragarh. After completing matriculation he joined the Gorkha Regiment. He served as a war correspondent with a movie camera for the Indian Army in the Second World War.
The book begins with, "Lambata is the name of the house my grand father built on a forlorn ridge in the village of Marh Manley in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand" "Lambata means a "long path" and aptly describes its isolated location, far from everywhere; over a kilometer away from the main village," he adds.
After India gained independence Thapa joined the Films Division in 1948 as a
Cameraman. He shared a very close relationship with the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and accompanied him as cameraman on many foreign tours, including those to Pakistan, Russia, Poland to mention a few.
The Boy from Lambata also presents the changing face of the Indian society and administrative set up. The saga of NS Thapa proves that one can achieve success against all odds through sheer courage, hard work and honesty.
He was later promoted to Chief Producer of Film Division and on this he says, "In 1967, on the 20th anniversary of Indian Independence, my family saw me promoted to the rank of producer, getting a higher salary and doing lesser work….I sat behind the a table like a glorified clerk and supervised the work of five or six directors…I felt like a bird with clipped wings."
The book provides commentary on the different phases of the World War II. The readers are sure to get hooked to 'The Boy From Lambata' with its interesting facts and anecdotes. The autobiographical book is interesting reading.
