The Answer is Blowin' in the Wind

Bob Dylan's 33rd b'day bash at 64

SHILLONG: There is another festival besides Christmas that Shillong celebrates with fervour. This North-East city full of rock musicians and rocky mountains, marks Bob Dylan’s birthday — May 24 — with the deference reserved for Pongal in the south, Diwali in the north and Bijoya Dasami in the east.

The picturesque hill station is once again decked up and ready for the annual ritual — feting Dylan, featuring his songs and fretting about a golden-blues past that has gone with the man who created a global anthem when he wrote Blowin in the Wind . Dylan will be 64 this year and the festival here 33.

Permission Needed for Shillong?

Greetings to all,

Tourists still need permission to visit the north-eastern states?

Where would you be during the monsoon months, if you could choose?

thanks.

Hi,

You need a permit for Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and I think Nagaland. No permit is required for Assam or Meghalya.

Shillong is easy to get to from Guwahati and a lovely journey, but I don't recommend it for the monsoon - unless you like rain "big time"!

So where would you go?

thanks for enlightening.

so... where would you be in the monsoon to have it "small time" ?

i have a horrendous memory from Manali - Leh way, when God got rid of all the water warehouses sotred in the sky... at once!
forget drops.... there were none.... only pools of water pouring from above, no mercy....
each time i exited the jeep to get rid of my personal water warehouse i got more and more wet, and it was like that for three days.
my first time in India....
second visit, in Rishikesh monsoon, much better. i roamed around barefoot, tired of "slaloming" between wet poo and raindrops... it was kind of liberating experience....

and now - i just cannot figure out where to go.
help...

Monsoon in India

Monsoons in Uttaranchal may be nice but I'd surely recommend a quieter version of Goa, if you're gonna be around that side.

As for Meghalaya, you might not like it during that time. It's the wettest place on earth!

Lakh, Crore, What a Mystery

hi,

thanks for the advice. have been thinking about Uttaranchal and am glad not to be alone with this idea. Goa, though, is a new thought and i like it.

i have been trying to figure out how much is one lakh and one crore in us dollars, and it's a tough job....
one Indian merchant said - 2,174 usd is one lakh.
on wikipedia - totally different story: one lakh = 100,000 usd !!!

shocking difference, isn't it?

the truth is out there......

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind

With the love of hot curries that many of us on here have, those would seem appropriate lyrics!

One lakh = One hundred thousand = 0.1 million

One crore = One hundred lakhs = 10 million

One lakh INR = 2174 USD (depending on exchange rate)

One lakh USD = 100, 000 USD

The lakhs and crores normally refer to rupees, conversion takes place afterwards. Confusion may arise of course, some IM members habitually refer to a rupee as a buck.

btw You sure found one wrong thread to post your questions in! This one was about Bob Dylan I think.
