Successful breeding of a Rare and endangered Species at Sarahan
A news article in The Hindu refers to successful captive breeding of a rare bird species, the Western Tragopan, after about 12 years. The place it was reared is in Sarahan, above the small stadium, some 750 metres from the Bhimakali Temple. The walk to the Captive breeding site is about 20 minutes climb from the stadium. For the members of the Community, I have a photograph of the Western Tragopan, spotted with deep saffron colour on its chest. The other rare species kept there are Monal Pheasant(photo attached), Koklass and Kalij. The place is closed for visitors from April-July for the breeding purpose. These two photographs were shot about 2 years back.
