Absolutely Janice but it also brings into focus how petty we really are!!

P.S. real discussion it seems to me is being stifled by "dishonoured groups" using said media to inflame passions and champion censorship/conformity!

Spot on Capt, that's the problem. It seems to me Ms Goody made most of her comments through downright ignorance as opposed to racism (& we must not get the two confused)& has yet been absolutely vilified in the trash press in the UK (who ironically enough can be deeply racist themselves). The whole issue of racism has been completely distorted. C4 and BB have manipulated the whole situation from the start to ensure ratings boosts - it may well backfire on them.

There's nothing the British press likes more than good old hypocrisy!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.

The papers have destroyed her, completely humiliated her, and if Jade is not an extremely strong person, they are in danger of pushing her over the edge, I think Shilpa would be disgusted with the way the papers are using this situation to prove how 'anti-racist' they are.

I think the 'News Of The World' newspaper should be sued for the way they turned Jade's words around.

Jade is a foul-mouthed bully, but not a racist; can anyone point to any of her words that indicate she's a racist?

A racist often hide their thoughts well, but get them to lose their temper and they show their true colours, Jade lost her temper in the big brother house, but again I ask, what did she say to indicate she's a racist?

The papers should have been concentrating on bullying this weekend, but instead they chose racism.

So Jade has faced the ultimate punishment for her 'racism', so what happens if a big brother housemate shouts a mouthful of real racist rubbish, how could their punishment be worse than Jade's?

I saw a little bit of a TV programme at about 19:30 last night, it was about 5 men and women living on 2 Islands for a few months, another 'reality' TV show, the programme wasn't live so must have been edited, now, remember that the watershed for 'acceptable' TV in the UK is 21:00.

A girl on the programme said, "I just don't like blacks, but it's OK, I wouldn't want one to be my slave", later she said "I don't mind different cultures, I just don't want them in my country, we've too many people with different cultures"

Now that is racist, and there is nothing on the TV about it today, and I doubt there is anything in the papers, but there will be another 5 people (who saw Jade once) telling the newspapers how Jade is racist.

everywhere i go in India I have to pay higher prices than indians because I am white. Thats racism.

One of the problems isnt what is happening on BB, but the problem is that people are actually watching that rubbish and think it is important...

P.S, just for the record, I have never watched an episode of Big Brother, and I never intend to either.

How can that be? I'm Indian and I have to pay the higher prices too as do many other Indians from overseas. Racist? No, I don't think so.

Quite true Sam. While complaining about others, lets have a look at ourselves and how we treat and look upon other Indians.

Its racist against non indian residents then. if its not then what is it?

Im just trying to point out that theres discrimination in many places. I personally am not bothered by what is said on Big brother, or anywhere else. I belive in freedom of speech. I may not agree with whats being said but thats the point of "freedom of speech".

Moving on........

With regard to monuments etc.

It's not racist.

It's the same price for all foreigners no matter what their race or country.

The price is cheaper for Indians because it's part of their history and culture.

yes, it may be unfair, but racism is stretching it a bit.

Hmmmm, I think it's an interesting debate. It's a shame that I'm in Aus and can't see the programme to make up my own mind. And yes I love telly!

Tell you what I'll shift the thread to the off topic area so that new members and through traffic can see that we are not hung up too much on big debates that could turn into diatribe.

If anyone dislikes my actions they can plea that the thread should:
a) be moved back to the News area, or
b) be closed as you suggest

I don't have a problem if the other mods do either of these actions.

I think Steven Ber and Capt Mahajan have explained it quite well. This isn't racism by any stretch of the imagination. And to be honest I don't even think it's that unfair either. After all, look at the exchange rate. One can purchase many rupees for a dollar or euro or pound, in India that goes a long way. Forinstance for someone from the States the enterance fee to a monument may be 1% of their monthly wage, but for a local in India, it is more likely to be 50%. So even though the duel pricing may seem unfair, it's actually not.
