Rising Rupee: Hospitality industry plans move to single tariff

Economic Times, 23rd Aug 2007

Quote:
Looking to cash in on the rising rupee against the US dollar, the hospitality industry in India is mulling toward shifting to a single tariff system based on the domestic currency.

Taking the lead in the shift is the Taj Group of Hotels, which will be charging only on rupee terms across all its properties in India starting this September.

The Indian govt is trying hard to reduce the value of the report (Who thought this day would ever come?) They are now allowing Indians to convert upto $100,000 of rupees each year into other foreign hard currencies.

Uniform Hotel Room Rates in Rupees on Cards?

Saw this in Times of India-

Quote:
On Saturday, most hoteliers across the country will move to a single currency pricing policy. In other words, room rates will be quoted in Indian rupees. Historically, hoteliers have followed a dual tariff system that allowed them to quote room rates in both US dollars — the universally accepted currency — and Indian rupees.
Thought some of you might find it interesting.
