Talking Relive your India experience at home (part 1).

Okay so I am back at home thinking "How Can I relive my India experiences at home without the Mess"?

Then the answer came to me "if someone would raise miniature cows I could have one of my own"

Finally my prayers have been answered here at Miniature Cattle

Please chip in and donate so I can get my own.

From the site...

"Check out the pictures, there are some colorful cutey pies"
When walking in Varanasi's lanes, one is aware of distinctly different pies...

I often relive my Indian experiences at home. The walls of our main living room are hung with momentos of India-batik wall hangings of south Indian rural scenes that we found in a Co-Op shop in Kodaikanal and a large hanging of Nataraj from the same source. Also an applique hanging of Ganesh from Pipli and one of Lord Jagganath from Puri in Orissa.

We sit down to Indian meals two or three times a week, light a joss stick and put a Vishwa Mohan Bhatt or Pandit Jasraj cd on the player.

It's not quite the same as being there though!

For those of us trying to relive our India experience here in the UK it has been a good week. Not only did England win the First Test Match ( must not get carried away here-- 4 more to go) but Channel 4 TV gave us a selection of programmes about India.

"Lagaan", the movie, got its first showing on British TV. It's a musical about a cricket match, set in British colonial times. If that didn't pack the movie houses in India then nothing will.

Trere was a behind the scenes documentary about the making of Miss India. Fascinating, though the language was a bit shocking (no, not their English, that was excellent). The bad language, I mean. If this ever gets shown on Indian TV some of these beautiful young women will not be able to return to the family home.

Another interesting documentary was about a new Call Centre in Delhi. Highly educated, intelligent graduates took on English names and pretended they were answering the phone in Liverpool or London. They had read up on life in the UK but the source of information seemed to be about 50 years out of date, which led to some confused conversations with potential customers.

For example "Is it very foggy in London today?" Generally it hasn't been foggy in London since the early 60's. Poor people. I would like to see them after a month of trying to sell whatever they were trying to sell. I did it once, for exactly a month and then quit for the sake of my sanity.

BTW I also managed to buy a delicious box of mangoes from the local Asian shop. Mmmmmmmm. A very good week.
