Update , since I can see this thread getting hits : Majnu is alive and well , stayed last time in September, got a New Years card from Wongdhen House yesterday.

Yes, thank God it's still going strong... I stayed at Majnu ka tila (Old Peace House) for more than one month this February. Far superior atmosphere, in my view, to Paharganj.

Oops, didn't see Shivani Sky Dancer's reply; so MKT is still there now, great. Are there good budgetlodgings to stay in there while in Delhi? (Can anyone mention a specific place and give an approximate daily cost for a single room with a bath?) - Thanks for any replies ~

'Old Peace House' {Tel:23939415}were charging just 200 rupees on the top floor, with attached bathroom and plenty of hot water- and color TV. First floor costs 400 rupees for a similar standard room, second floor is 300 rupees. The management is quite friendly. They also have 'New Peace House' a few lanes further along.

'Lhasa House'{Tel:23939888, email: lhasahouse@rediffmail.com } is also ok and charge about 350 to 500 rupees.

'White House' (Tel:23813644, email: whitehouse02@yahoo.com or whitehouse02@rediffmail.com - don't know which email is the new one}also similar prices and standard.

'Wongdhen House'{Tel:23816689, email: wongdhenhouse@hotmail.com }is slightly better and slighty more expensive. Good Tibetan restaurant here.

Do keep in mind that the standard of all accommodation in MKT is very basic, but usually good value. It is highly recommended that you book in advance, cause often rooms fill up fast, depending on the season.
