Mumbai - Lonavala & Delhi to Mussoorie (cab or train?)

Namaste!

My wife and I will be wanting to get to Mumbai to Lonavala in a few months. What is the easiest and fastest way? By train or by cab/bus?

We will also eventually be going from Delhi to Mussoorie. What is easiest and fastest? By train or by cab/bus?

We would also love to know the expenses we are looking at for the different options. Thanks for your help!

grace and peace,
aradhna

For mumbai to lonavala -
If any of the railway stations- thane, cst, dadar are close to where you are then train is a fast option. Otherwise you'll get to lonavala quickly by the expressway(cab).
But the trin journey is really beautiful especially in the evenings in the karjat-lonavala stretch.

Mumbai to Lonavala

Thanks for the advice. More than likely we would be coming from the airport. Would you suggest a cab ride or a train ride? What train should we take to Lonavala from the airport? Thanks!

Also, does anyone know the best route from Delhi to Mussoorie if we are starting our journey at the airport? Thanks!

sincerely,
aradhna

Gaurav,

That is very helpful information. I appreciate the time frames and cost for each leg. Thanks again!

The Dehradun Shatabdi leaves Delhi at 6:50 AM, so unless you are connecting from an int'l flight arriving overnight you will need to either catch the evening Janshatabdi (getting into Dehradun late at night) or one of the overnight trains to avoid spending the night in Delhi.

A taxi from Delhi airport to Mussoorie should cost around 5500 INR, which seems like a lot when compared to the train, but is a lot more flexible.

I think we will be staying with some friends in Delhi, so we will take the 6:50 AM Dehradun Shatabdi.

Thanks for the help again,
aradhna

The Shatabdi does Delhi-Dehradun in under six hours and a taxi from Dehradun (train station)-Mussoorie will take approximately one hour (depending on city traffic). When I last made this trip in 2008 the taxis were asking for a MINIMUM of 400 INR for a private cab to Mussoorie (or more, depending on what part of town you are going to), so be prepared to pay over and above the 250 INR mentioned in an earlier post. If you are on a budget and are not pressed for time, there is a bus that leaves from the Dehradun train station to Mussoorie as well. It takes a little longer than a taxi, but costs less than 30 INR.
