LP is looking for experimental travellers
DESPERATELY SEEKING EXPERIMENTAL TRAVELLERS...
Lonely Planet is looking for volunteers to undertake a range of experimental travel challenges and tell us about their experiences. The best experiences will be published in a new travel book to be released next year, participants will receive a copy of the book and all contributions will be acknowledged in the publication . There are around 80 travel experiments, ranging from Counter Travel (travelling to a famous monument with a camera, but instead of photographing the site, turning your back on it and snapping whatever lies opposite) to Airport Travel (spending 24 hours in an airport), or 12-Travel (building an itinerary around the number 12, eg: taking the 12:12pm train from platform 12, getting off at the 12 stop etc). WANT TO KNOW MORE? If you'd like to know more please email us at Experimental.Travel@lonelyplan et.com and we'll send you an information sheet! source: http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/today.cfm#98 |

How about an experiment where they give me a million dollars and see how much fun around the world I can have with that? It's a challenge but I think I'm up to it.

There were two middle-aged brothers from NZ who last year went off to break the world record for visiting every country in the shortest time possible.... I thought at the time... how bloody stupid!! Imagine spending all that money and spending all your time on a plane or in airports... madness.

Good idea, volga_volga !
We can have a "unique traveller" competition, for a traveller who: 1. Has spent most weeks in India without seeing the Taj (as suggested by you) 2. Has spent most weeks in India without seeing Goa. 3. Has visited Mcleod Ganj only for the Dhauladhars. 4. Has spent most weeks in India without complaining about touts, scams, beggars, etc. 5. Has toured Rajasthan intensively in May and June. 6. Has spent a week in New Delhi without seeing Paharganj. etc., etc. HOWZZAT ? |

god, i was gonna say for #6 I would be the first to compete (spent six weeks in Delhi in Chanakyapuri) but then suddenly remembered for some weird reason I went to Paharganj on my first weekend feeling nostalgic abt my first trip to India and wanting to visit my first ever Indian hotel, naturally, in Paharganj
OK I spent FIVE weeks in Delhi without seeing Paharganj HOWZZAT? naturally, all the above does not apply to the indian residents, I presume and what is Dhaulakhars? |

You do not qualify, volga !! After all, you couldn't resist the temptation of visiting Paharganj !!
Of course, this competition is not for Indian residents. Dhauladhars is the name of the majestic Himalayan mountain range which provides a spectacular backdrop to Dharamsala and Mcleod Ganj. Unfortunately, the majority rushes to Mcleod to study Tibetan culture ! |

I win !!!
I've been in India for over 7 months now, that is what... 30 weeks AND 1. I haven't seen the Taj 2. I haven't been to Goa 3. I live in Delhi and never was in Paharganj 4. I will be in Dharamsala in a few weeks and am going only for mountains, fresh air and... carrot cake, since Mike couldn't pack any last time. (I haven't been desperate enough to try the chinese sweets yet ) |
