Jet Airways Announces US Flights

Singapore:Jet Airways is planning to introduce six flights a week from Mumbai to Newark in US from mid-June and aims to step up its daily flights to 21 services a week from India to Singapore in its winter schedule, subject to necessary government approvals.

Daily flights from Mumbai to London are scheduled with leased Airbus A-340 aircraft with plans to step them up to double daily as and when more aircraft would be acquired, Jet Chief Operating Officer Peter Luethi told reporters here today at the launch of a daily service between Mumbai and Singapore.

He said the airlines was looking for 9-15 wide body long-range and medium-range aircraft during the next one year to fly non-stop to US destinations following the Open Skies Policy signed between India and the US, which could be either via Brussels or Amsterdam.

Thumbs up

yea, Jet Airways is good....and I have been waiting for this!!! ...I think with India and US opening their individual airspaces for commercial access, Indian private airlines like Jet and Sahara are likely to operate flights in other US cities apart from Newark....

Great news, no doubt, but don't be fooled by the use of the "non-stop to US destinations" rhetoric, as they say in the same sentence that these flights "could be either via Brussels or Amsterdam". When was the last time you flew non-stop via an intermediate destination?

Oh, and Newark is a great airport. Not a bad place to start.

Well, technically all flights are non-stop to somewhere. So Jet may be flying non-stop to the US, but from Brussels or Amsterdam. It will be one-stop from India, but non-stop from Europe.

Delta CDG-CHENNAI

Was browsing Delta's inflight brochure yesterday and stumbled on this story.

NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2004 – Delta (NYSE: DAL) customers soon will have more access to India with new, planned daily service between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Chennai (Madras), India, with a stop at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle International Airport, beginning May 9.

Customers will benefit from the service and experience of the only U.S. carrier serving two cities in India, Mumbai and Chennai. Expanding international service is a key element of Delta’s transformation plan, which will provide customers more access to the world.

“Customers in the United States and France now have direct access to one of the fastest growing service and technology centers in India," said Doug Blissit, vice president-Network Planning. "This new flight gives our customers in India more choices for international travel via two significant gateways – Paris-Charles de Gaulle and New York-JFK. These cities offer travelers hundreds of convenient connections to destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the United States.”

Delta currently offers passengers daily New York-Paris-Mumbai flights and daily seasonal service from New York-Frankfurt-Mumbai.

The new service will feature the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, featuring Delta’s award-winning BusinessElite® service with seats in a 2x2x2 configuration and 60 inches of pitch.

Thumbs up Hurray

This is indeed great news. I have had good experiences on domestic Jet service and glad to hear that they are going international. Hurray! Now if I can only save enough money to buy the tickets,....

Ooh! I wonder if it's possible to fly from Heathrow and join in Paris. Daily! beats BA's twice-a-week.

60 inches? That's quite a lot, isn't it? Economy class?

[LATER:] Ahh, no: as I suspected that's Premium Business Class
