Internet train booking
Internet train booking
Salü,
I just wanted to inform anyone who wants to know that the Internet booking with international credit cards is not possible any more (at least that is what the IRCTC care center wrote me.) except with American express. After trying several times to get a ticket (as I have lots of times before) I always got the message that the bank wont allow the payment. At IRCTC they are planing "in due time" (whatever that may mean
)to inform customers about the change. Anyone have any other informations?
enjoy
Valentin

This is surprising. From time to time we do hear about problems with Int'l credit cards, but this is probably the first instance where Visa & Mastercard have both been barred.
For our overseas travellers sake, I hope they can resolve the problem soon. Any more info on this matter would be good.

Cleartrip.com was the right Idea! Thanks DaisyL, I got the ticket! None the less IRCTC and Makemytrip.com wont work out for international credit cards

This has been reported here of late yes. Another person just recently said they managed alright from abroad with Cleartrip.I've no idea when or what IRCTC plans to do about it. Word has it the Railways themselves are to open a booking site of their own shortly;* no idea if they plan to again allow for foreign bookings, either.
* (Was set for this late Sept., see Railways to launch own train booking website. May as well never happen, one supposes

I'm very happy that you got your ticket, valentin!
Machadinha is correct that this has been reported on here before. I used cleartrip with no problems before, but I thought that makemytrip would also work. I didn't know that there were problems with them accepting foreign credit cards.
But, all's well that ends well - you have your ticket!

Have a look at http://erail.in?T=KLK::SML:; note it says there many of these trains are bookable only from 30 days in advance.A note: Many here seem to have questions about booking these trains. They appear to be bookable from the information given by that site, but I don't know the ins & outs of it either. The train classes they offer would indeed suggest they would be, so I'm guessing many people just run into this 30-day limit without realizing it.
Booking as such of course would need to be done at http://www.irctc.co.in/; or notably for foreigners, handle it through e.g. http://www.cleartrip.com/.

Aside from opening a new bank account, look for a friend/colleague/family member with a card that is accepted?

writing them an email with your specific issue and card issuer details might be a good idea. They will most likely have a solution.
