Indian Air force dominates USAF in combat excercises
At a U.S. air-to-air exercise with the Indian Air Force in February, India used Russian jets to defeat aging American F-15Cs, revealed "that we may not be as far ahead of the rest of the world as we once thought we were."

"Top Gun" is reality for Hollywood!!
The truth, American pilots do take a beating sometimes, at the hands of many foreign flyers!! |

American pilots have not seen any REAL air-to-air combat since WW2.

Its like the US Army. To the world they are shown to be real Rambo type figures but I used to work with someone who was in the British Army and from what he used to say they were not very good at all (he went on a few NATO exercises with them).
The US special forces are also laughed at. The British, Australian, Isreali and French special forces are highly rated but the US are laughed at. One perosn I spoke to (again army background) said they were just like regular British soldiers, which then begs the question what are the US regular forces like. The Indians may have beaten them in a few war games but on the field it would be a different story. The Indian army from what I have seen is nothing speical. It is overstaffed and underworked. Many soldiers I have seen are overweight and I doubt would be able to complete a British Army entrance test. |

But the british army has NEVER fought a war(since the norman conquest)! They were always officers drinking wiskey sours while the Ghurkas, the Yugoslavs and the Sikhs fought FOR them (wether in North Africa, Afganisthan or the caucuses)

Its all in the training. The British army is amongst the best in the world. The US is nowhere near the level of the British Army. The most highly rated special forces unit is the British SAS and similar units from Australia. The Indian special forces (National Security Guard) look like a joke to me, the Black Cat Commandos as they are called are nothing but ordinary soldiers wearing black dungarees. The only regiments of the Indian army I rate are the The Punjab Regiment , The Sikh Regiment , Sikh Light Infantry and 1, 3, 4 , 5, 8, 9 , 11 Gorkha Rifles. |

People, people, people...there is alot of ignorance on this thread. Yes, in a regional sense, the Indian Air Force has its bright points...but consider this: The reason this article was published was because of a looming budget fight between the USAF and congress over funding for the F/A-22 Raptor aircraft. Some senators have called into question the need for such and advanced (read expensive) aircraft. The US Air Force is simply trying to make its case for the new fighters. This is why the F/A-22 went from a single role F-22 to the multi-role F/A-22 (Fighter/Attack). It was to sell the program to congress. There is no doubt whatsoever the USAF is a much, much better fighting force than the Indian Air Force (IAF)...no offense to the IAF, it does have its stregths compared to its regional competitors.
No other nation's military, like it or not, can compare with the US military. It is simply the finest fighting force the world has ever seen. Sorry to burst any illusions anyone has. Some countries may have good niche capabilities but overall...as the USAF motto says "No One Comes Close." Let's see, since WWII the USAF has seen extensive air-to-air combat in Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf War I. There is a reason many countries have been afraid to fly against the USAF. It's generally suicide. |

The British Army is a small police force compared with the US Army. The RAF is like a poor cousin compared to the USAF. Any comparison is a joke. The American advantages in space systems, command and control systems, budget , defense industries, etc. put it on a totally different level. The British heavily leverage American resources to maintain their very professional forces. |

Actually, the kill ratios favored the USAF...but you are right...the US should have done better..Korea was actually quite favorable, however. |

Koreakim is right, The US spends 500 Bn(stated amount) and easily three times that (unstated slush money) on defense every year. ALL THE REST OF THE WORLD doesn't spend as much.
Money talks. KK, dey got their asses whupped .(fullstop). This is my source of information...the discovery wings documentary. |

I agree with koreankim; there is a lot of ignorance in this thread. I see little point in taking this thread in the various directions a few of you apparently would like to go.
m2 (edit: in the time it took me to post, there were three more intervening posts. enough, guys) |
