India terror blast toll at 34, rising

This has been all over the news channels for the last hour or two. Final casualty figures will be higher; already are, on TV.

Quote:
Twenty persons were killed and nearly 60 injured in two powerful near-simultaneous blasts at a crowded park and a popular eating joint in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.

No no no!!!! This is just awful.

I feel so helpless and disconnected - I left Hyderabad for the US in early August and I'm not returning until next week. Jeez, I hope all my friends and coworkers are OK.

The explosions come hours after the city police busted an international counterfeit currency racket with the arrest of four persons, including a Dubai national, and the seizure of fake currency of Rs. 2.36 crore from the old city.

Earlier in the day, Commissioner of Police Balwinder Singh told reporters that it was an “international racket of smuggling sophisticated fake Indian currency from Pakistan and Dubai.”

On May 18, nine persons were killed in a bomb blast in the Mecca Masjid near Charminar in the southern part of the city.

Here in the UK this has hardly warranted a mention. Nothing on the TV news, and a very small link on the BBC News website. I have to admit, I read the headline and didn't even bother clicking on it - just another minor incident a long, long way away.

But those photographs... oh my god. Those poor people.

Those photos are so painful.

Why?

Terrible news - and so senseless with the lives of innocent people being taken. These mindless acts are done by demented people with no thought for their fellow man.

Moderator note: Hyderabadi, thanks for that. It is under review.

Btw, I did not click on the link, not because I can't see blood, but because I think I have seen too much already.

Thanks again.
