Seven persons were killed when a small hill in Dicarpale village in South Goa collapsed due to incessant rains last night, South Goa collector said JB Singh. Two persons were rescued alive from the debris, he said adding, "this was a small carpentry shop just across the road from a small hill. It is estimated that at least 12 people, all workers of that shop, were inside when the landslide occurred at around 9:30 pm yesterday." "We have called in the army and the fire brigade and rescue work is still on. We have recovered seven bodies. We are expecting to find more people under the debris," he added. At least 30 families would be evacuated from the area as a precaution, Singh said and added that 75 people have been evcuated from other parts of South Goa due to flooding and dangerous water levels in some areas. Goa has experienced more than 11 inches of rainfall in last couple of days, Meteorological Department sources said adding the torrential rains are likely to continue till tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, in North Goa, 100 people were evacuated in Bicholim and Sanquelim areas last night after water levels increased to alarming levels, North Goa Collector Nikhil Kumar said. "However, although the water level is receding, we do not want to take any chances since it is high tide here at noon," he said. |

| In regards to govt incompetency, i hear that the Bollywood stars, led by Mahesh Bhatt, are filing a law suit against the state govt. Granted, these court cases will go on for years with no resolution. At the least, its a step in the right directions where the citizens feels like the govt should be held responsible. |
