Post Get your rail ticket door delivered

HYDERABAD: Railway passengers need not go to reservation counters and wait in long queues for hours together to buy a ticket. Now, the passengers can avail themselves of the facility of door delivery of rail tickets. The facility is being provided by AFL WIZ (express courier services) in coordination with the Indian Railways.

Just the way you get your pizzas and burgers door delivered, now you can get your rail ticket reserved and home delivered at a click of a mouse. Rail tickets can be booked through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) website www.irctc.co.in and the tickets will be delivered by the premier express service AFL WIZ. The service has got a unique feature where the passengers can ascertain the delivery status by just logging on to the website www.aflwiz.com and entering their PNR number.

S Ranganathan, general manager of AFL WIZ, said: ‘‘AFL WIZ has made this unique facility available to the public with the help of high-end technology and security systems. Our strong national network fortified by close customer interface has enabled us to assist the Indian Railways realise its dream to bring about a global experience in customer satisfaction.’’ The service is currently available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Nagpur, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Pune, Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata. ‘‘It would be extended to other cities in the second phase,’’ Ranganathan said.

AFL WIZ is the domestic express brand of the Rs 1,000 crore AFL group. The AFL history can be traced back to 1867 when Nusserwanji Tata, founder of the Tata Empire, entrusted Framji Guzder with the entire shipping arrangement of the British Commissariat campaign supplies.

Soon, Framji and his son Sorabji set up a clearing and forwarding agency now known as N S Guzder and Co Ltd. Incidentally during World War-II, the company was the sole clearing agent for lakhs of tonnes of freight for the Government of India Supply Department.

AFL was founded in 1945 by Jamshed Guzder when he was appointed by Tata Airlines as its first sole cargo agent in India. Then in 1979, AFL introduced India to the concept of ‘‘Express delivery’’ (courier services) through an exclusive alliance with DHL Worldwide Express, the world’s largest international express company. AFL WIZ has been credited with having pioneered India’s first courier service way back in 1979. Further information may be obtained from Ms Nicole on phone No 27845763 and 27845787.’

they should deliver both in india and overseas... at all locations and also arrange for a person to pickup at a railway counter in most cities of india.

thus a traveller can book a ticket and pick it up just before he travels in the train.

in england (not sure about the rest of the world) 'they should' can have two opposite meanings.

'they should' meaning- they should but they don't.

'they should' meaning- they should, if you check you will find they do.

is your post saying how you think the service should be, or, saying how the service is now.

and they say english is an 'easy' language.

Quite funny Steve... or 'should' have been.. they must deliver both in...

I had tried the online rail reservations and it was quite ok.. My tickets were delivered the third day. Right now the tickets can be collected at Delhi station. I wish they must include cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Trivendrum, Chennai etc with international airports in this list where the tickets can be collected. Would be a great boon for people coming into India..

BTW new rail budget was announced today.. no hike in rail fares proposed but travel in AC class made marginally cheap. Rajdhani and Shatabdi fares also have been reduced...
