grusome!

did anyone watch the video? just goes to show that some people will do anything for money...wherever it is in the world! I guess that doc is not too worried about generating bad karma for himself!

is anything being done about the drs. who do this?

i heard about this from an exporter the first time that i was in india. i saw it when i was there last year, captured a photo of a teenage boy with his arm chopped off. it could've been accident related too, but whoever stitched it up did a poor job.

very sad...

the fact

These doctors were released after being questioned by police , because there was no complaint received against them. and i think it is difficult to produce evidence in this case.

and perhaps the doctors paid them off too...i would imagine that those who are maimed and begging would be afraid to speak out for fear of what may happen. if they'll do this to them, who knows what they are capable of. very frightening to think of.

Oh dear. Yet another example of great Indian justice.

I'm almost more shocked by that than I am by the fact it happens in the first place.

... and, a month later, when this is all forgotten, it will be another example of the great indian inertia.

of course no beggar would come forward to give evidence against a dr. doing that. that would be like testifying against the Mob here in the US....

Yes, I fear you are right

Once in this situation what choice do they have? What other livelihood is available to them?

its a lucrative business..

Mumbai beggars earn Rs 180 crore a year

mumbai mirror had an article just last week, an undercover reporter of theirs posed as a beggar doing the streets..he earned Rs 18/- or so in 4 hours...in parts of downtown and central bombay..not bad~!...

trivandrum banned begging, anyone caught was put in a social rehab centre.. but can mumbai do it?..hmmm..dont know ~ the enforcement for anything especially in social issues leaves a lot to be desired~

Yes, it is! I remember seeing a man on a train in Mumbai, who appeared to not have an arm, then when he walked away, you could see the arm. I guess he didnt want to go the Dr. route. I am sorry, I am not making fun of this dreadful situation but jeez... harvesting kidneys to cutting off limbs~ thats India.

rohington mistry in his book 'a fine balance' portrayes these beggars/mafia very vividly. that book was a tragedy though~ ..havent read a more depressing book ever..

seriously, we are dealing with a population of one billion, there will be all sorts of wack jobs and what not. though it seems very hopeless and depressing that people like these doctors walk away...sometimes i feel that a benevolent rich guy should have private hit squad to take out these loonies...
