Disease outbreak looms over [TN] railway stations

Quote:
Major railway stations in Tamil Nadu pose a threat of disease outbreak. Entomologists of the Directorate of Public Health who conducted a random survey last week have categorised Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Madurai, Coimbatore and a few other stations as “high risk” stations taking into account the “alarming” mosquito density there.

No wonder you are the grumpy one if you have to contend with that level of the little blighters!
Mind you here in Ernakulam it isn't much better despite regular spraying. Friends staying with us found a mossie zapper that looks like a tennis raquet and spend there time zapping every insect in sight. Every time they got one there was a bright blue flash as the mossie was incinerated accompanied by a loud 'crack'. Maybe they should issue these free of charge to all railway passengers but take care to remove all breakables as people can get quite violent when delivering their overhead lobs!

They fly in clouds outside my house.

I think i is going to be a very bad year here. It is January, for goodness sake; supposed to be low season for mossies!

We have screens on every window and door, as well as ultra-violet traps around the place --- but there is still plenty of work left for our hand held zapper racket to do.

UV traps are largely inneffective against mosquitoes since they home in on a combination of factors including smell. The do make a device that uses propane to get over that..

Our UV traps do catch quite a few of the mossies that get into the house: they are not at all useless, plus other miscellaneous flies, of course.

The propane devices, available in USA, I have not seen at all here.

one evening i sat out on the porch waiting for my mother to join me for some chai and gupshup. imagine my astonishment when she brought out two racquets and told me we were going to play badminton. i was like whaaaaat?!! then she turned it on and started zapping the little winged monsters left and right.. i almost jumped out of my skin in fright with the first bang and flash of light.. after that i was waving around the racquet like a madwoman obsessed with revenge. i got my own back with those damned mossies that night!! *muahahahahha*
