Delhi Bombings!

According to reports around 15 people were injured when two bombs went off inside a Popular Mosque, the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi!
There were no fatalities

This will likely be viewed as a tit for tat bombing amongst some, after last Months bombings in Varanasi.
Lets hope this isn't the spark that signals communual violence amongst Hindus and Muslims!!!!

One of the things that give heart in India is the disinterest ordinary people show in communal violence, whatever their prejudices. Communal violence in India has rarely spread unless instigated or fanned by politicians of all colours.

Which is not to say that this cannot be a threat, now or in the future.

I also feel the bigger simmering divide in India is the chasm between the rich/middle class and the poor, and not religious. Because that chasm can lead it to civil war.

That's what India needs, more violence at religious sites!

Another sad news about India.

The last news I had read was about visit to arrested in AIIMS Medha Patkar by who you think - Uma Bharti. Medha said - why you are here? You know I do not approve your communal politics. What Uma said was not clear but it's for sure she was attracted to invisible power in this poor woman.
I do respect Uma very much, especially her affection towards animals and poor OBC people but still cannot understand communal strife in Indian politics. Very sad, all killings in Gujarat and now in Jami Masjid.

nah~ i have disagree there humbly captain over the bigger threat today.,..its not the the rich/poor divide but the religious divide.

you see there is something called fate and destiny that people in asia for the matter see in life in general. lot of them accept it as fate that they are poor or such and such~ and this leads to amazing amount of tolerance or passiveness towards any possible acts~ yes they can instigated..yes they have aspirations...side by side to this is a problem of illiteracy as well~

i see the problems of religion though being of bigger nature and more dangerous. minority appeasement with dirty politicians is comparable to playing with fire. along with that lack of enforcement against criminals and general apathy to confront the real issues that plague minorities or say the borders with illegal unwanted elements are alarming signs for things to come~

people have forgotten varanasi probably, before that it was lucknow, meerut comes along with the fire (nothing to do with religion though..atleast till now) and then bangalore yesterday and now srinagar and delhi today~ yeah we will form committees, investigate but jostling for space in the paper, media and our mind is already jessica lal, narmada dam, price of gold, salman khan bail, wardrobe malfunctions and moral policing, sehwags batting form etc etc~ adding to the daily grind!

a tragedy a day in my morning newspaper, bat an eyelid if the dead is in double digits, raise my eyebrows if the number is in the hundreds, shake my head and keep couple of neurons for that during the day if its thousands...may send some money or SMS my vote for the concerned poll on the telly?...how immune have we become?

comfortably numb ....mmmmmm mmmm to quote pink floyd ~

GC I think "comfortably numb" could very well describe the state of the world at large right now!!
Shrugged shoulders, platitudes and excuses seem to masquarading as policy right now, anyone raising their head above the parapet branded a liberal!

gc and cyber.. few thoughts

quotes first!

kill one man and you are an assassin. kill a thousand and you are a general.
kill a million and you are god.

one death is a tragedy. a million deaths is a statistic.

but, why i say what i say is precisely because we are comfortably numb. and the poor may be uncomfortably so, specially in this new "developing", more materialistic middle class India. Witness some pretty rabid statements made by some people about battling in the streets if the recent proposed (and ill thought, in my view) reservations in educational institutions are reversed.

How would I react if I was poor, with no hope, no education and therefore no chance of a decent job? (we dont need no education? not likely!). More, I see around me, on TV and otherwise, things I will be never able to afford, opportunities I will never have, food I will never eat, places I will never see, cars in which I will never travel in....

You may say it was always like this. Perhaps, but two things have changed which have the potential to create great tension.

-one, I see the gap between the poor and the educated middle class is widening. Before it was the gap between the rich and the poor. Which leads to greater despair among the poor, because what they aspire for is a middle class existence.
-two, the explosion in all forms of media will highlight more and more what the poor are missing.

And it is my two bit contention that instances like Bangalore recently have as much to do with social and financial frustration as they have to do with the death of an actor.

I'm glad no-one got killed this time, but it's still really grim.

You've got to wonder about the mental stability of these religious lunatics, haven't you? What sort of a person wants to encourage religious strife? Particularly in a country like India that's seen so much of it. It beggars belief, it really does.

I just booked a ticket to Delhi, too. I'm sure it'll be OK but it's a bit of a concern.

Fortunately no!!!

Like the people of Varanasi the people of Delhi have also shown great maturity & tolerence. The blast has been condemmed by both the Imam of Jama Masjid and also by the head of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Two people have been detained by Delhi police for interrogation. A special prayer may be organised today for the recovery of those injured.

If the country shows instability now then chances are companies will pull out and in turn it will affect the politicians pocket.
