hmm - i'm guessin it must've been the turban and beard that set the alarm bells ringing for WMD's.

does anybody have any idea how horrendous an experience that can be ?
thakur jaane [god only knows] how many more horror stories them immigration questioning rooms hold.
sheesh.

:brishti
Now that's a separate issue - a turban should not dictate an asre check.

Check every one's arse - or no one's.

I'd guess it would have been the beard.

What is far more worrying than the terrorists is the some of the dumb stupid idiots who are supposed to be looking after our security, both on the front line and those determining the policies and procedures.

Profiling is a complicated issue.

But I totally agree with you - the policies and procedures make no sense whatsoever.

who you going to argue with over there, eh ?
besides - when was human rights ever a priority over security for home and hearth ?
oh please.

its a government dictat... it is not about some idiots at the frontline.

Given the current climate - I'd rather human rights take a back seat over security.
That's just me.

And TSA is NOT a government agency. It make be a trckle down from government dictat - but certainly they could institute better policies.

given the current climate AFH -
as long our kids/family/friends/whatevers are safe and warm,
and as long as gloved hands dont travel up our childrens bums...
i guess all procedures are acceptable, in the name of security, huh ?

here's a list of minor detainees - hey, it was done for security.
here's more and even more.

you think this is only what happens in a gitmo ????
obama has got the peace prize - da mon who is just sending in 50,000 or some-such-number troops into afghanistan.
butt of course - he's got world peace at heart when he does that... gee how could it possibly be anything else. tsk tsk.
and of course - there are no civilian deaths and horrors -
aaah, they're collateral damage or is it accidental deaths - what do they call it nowadays ?

the temperament is the same - the treatment meted out at airports.

the difference between india and the developed world is - we commit all of them evils to ourselves [and how]
i have a problem justifying actions borne out of the free-will[y] of paranoid / violence / intrusive body searches / whatever whatever... there is no end to what can be done to humans in the name of security - and not be answerable.

Yes, as long as they are well thought out, and implemented appropriately.

OK, very sad stories. But for the larger good of humanity...

I am in complete agreement with you on this issue. The US should just shut up and go away from the ME.

Enough evil is commited - upon onesleves or others. I wouldn't be too righteous about the record of the 'developed world'.

"current climate" --- in this sense, is created by the politicians and the media.

I am not saying there is no danger, just that there is probably just as much manipulation for persona/political ends.

In Obama's innaugural speech, very clearly. So clearly I found tears in my eyes. We never expected things to change overnight, but don;t you think we've been waiting a bit too long now?

Make sure you get rehydrated.
And sorry for evoking this visceral response.

I have very mixed feelings on profiling and detention - hard to articulate, let alone define.

supersonic tickets to heavan

Cynically speaking, sure India's troubled neighbours who want a supersonic ticket to heavan may want to try their wares in India and the west who in their narrow interpretation are the infidels!

I must admit that when I first read the article, I wondered what was next. Bum bombs in children? Pregnant women? (on the chance that they would be less likely to be body scanned or suspected)

Now I have another thought on profiling and bums.
There are, literally, thousands of British citizens who have been trained by terrorist organisations in Pakistan/Afghanistan and Somalia. Not all of them are South Asian.

Wonder what kind of threads we would see on indiamike if the Indian airport authorities started profiling and looking up some British citizen's bums.

Ouch!

I don't know how I missed this story--must have been temporarily on another planet.

Unfortunately proves what I've already believed, anyone determined to try to kill, will figure out a way to do it. Though I'm happy to see they do sometimes get caught first or don't succeed, mostly they don't--just read the daily news.
