Breast massaging swami arrested
Police in India have arrested a swami who claimed massaging the breasts of childless women would help them get pregnant.
The Deccan Chronicle says Kuchamardhana Swamy, alias Gottimukkala Babu Rao, was arrested at the Sri Rajarajeswari temple at Parkal in Andhra Pradesh after a complaint was lodged by a social worker
Hundreds of women had been visiting him on Mondays and Saturdays to have their breasts massaged, because they believed it would result in motherhood.
Rao claimed he had the blessings of Hindu god Lord Shiva to 'treat' the women.
The former teacher turned into a swami when his wife left him because the couple could not have children.
The officer sent to arrest Rao encountered protests from female devotees who argued the police were interfering with their treatment, and denying them the swami's blessings.
The swami has been charged under laws dealing with cheating and outraging the modesty of women.

i can picture the line of women outside the temple and Gottimukkala rubbing his hands together thinking 'i'm glad my wife left me'
then again, maybe not such a good idea.
please note, none of these women are waiting to see the Breast massaging swami, this is just an attempt at some 'harmless' fun.

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?
He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

When I read the first post I thought "this is f**kin brilliant, what an idea".
Then I scrolled down and saw the picture and thought "hmmm....not a job I would want".
But I hope Archits is reading this, because this is it!
The business idea that you have been searching for. A whole chain of breast squeezing stalls (like a kissing booth at a carnival) where woman line up for a squeeze and fertility.
Brilliant.

steven_ber: in your picture the women each have a card pinned close to one breast. Is this the one that has already been treated, or the one they wish to have palpated by the swami?
When a Western man's wife leaves him, he turns to alcohol; in India he turns into a swami...

Posting someone's picture with such a write up is hghly objectional. These women can be someone's mother or sister. I must say most of the comments made by u guys are insenstive keeping in view the indian culture, and fail to understand the other side of the story, the pain of a childless married women in India.
Any guide book can tell u about the cheap hotels and where to buy Bhang Lassi in India. Make people feel and undersatnd the mystic , ...that India is.
I am not trying to defend the swami.
but my experience says most of such news items in ANANOVA are crap and baseless, and a cheap method to attaract bad taste visitors to their "masala" website.
Story fail's to explain..
Who was the social worker?
Name of any devotee who objected his arrest?
Who was the police officer, and from which police station?
I am not trying to prove that the story can not be true. But I suspect its, authenticity as it appared in Ananova.
How come , the Times of India, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Deccan Herald, Hindu and many more reputed new papers missed this story.
Even if the story is true, the picture above is HIGHLY OBJECTIONAL
best wishes

Does anyone have a photo of the swami? I wouldn't mind visiting him. I'd have to see him first though.

The story definitely came from the Deccan Chronicle... checked their website. Maybe the other papers just didn't pick it up. From what I know of ananova - they source what they call "Quirkies" from newspapers around the world. And I don't think the story was derogatory to swamis in general... it just reported on this particular one.See your point re photo - but I don't think the intention was in anyway mean-spirited. Some times things just get a little silly round here... but I think that's why a lot of us log on - to escape a dull working day.
Best wishes

Reason: the image was wrong since it was a profile pic and changed after the thread was posted
More or less on topic, I've also heard of women who have found it difficult to conceive spending some nights with a priest in a local temple. Miraculously, they produce a child about 9 months later.
Seems a bit more normal than bishops and choirboys to me.

An anagram of breast massaging swami:
rags sing: wait memsaabs!

uh well, mike maybe you do need to remove that photo
it could be making fun of someone unfairly
Maree, yes, this story did not make headlines - even I missed it and something like this would be highly controversial.
Is it something as old as Rajneesh ? No wonder the lack of interest in the Indian media.

i apologise to you about the photo, i thought everybody would see it as an attempt at humour.
the plight of women (childless or not) in india is in my opinion dreadfull and one of the only things i dislike about india, but i think that is best left for another thread, and for members who understand religion and the attitude towards women that religion seem to promote.
click on the link below to see harrowing pictures of female victims in india.
NAGWA Foundation
on a lighter note, the second picture of a young 'swami wanabee' will not cause offence to the person in the photo, i'm sure of that.

no harm done
Dear steven_ber
There is no need to apologise for that photo, I just wrote that what I felt. It was only beacuse I thought being an Indian I feel India a bit better, as u guys feel to your respective countries.
Take it easy. The important thing is that we both have no wrong intensions, and working to make this site better.
Cheers
