Bollystan : The Global India
It is commonly accepted that there will be three great powers in the 21st century, the United States, the EU and China and a number of second-tier powers, such as Brazil, India and Japan. But as PARAG KHANNA argues, India's ability to leverage the power of globalization might allow the country to project significant influence on global economic, political and cultural affairs.....

Hyderabadi, I tried hard to read this article...I don't know if I haven't had my fix of coffee or what, but I found Parag Khanna's style of writing very all-over-the-place. Though I suppose the gist of what he is trying to say is not so hard to get.
I think I have met this Parag Khanna at a friend's place...must confirm if it is the same person!! |

Let me know how that goes...Thomas Friedman has been promoting the book so much. I was vaguely thinking of buying it too, but I'll wait for you to get back to me!

To tout our own horn on teh world stage is characteristically Indian. Frankly I have been involved with all kinds of delegations. Until we move beyond the photo ops that Indians and our diasporo love, I do not share great optimism. Every speech in filled with it, but when we get across the table the reality sets in.
So let's examine ourselves and move towards a greatness that can be.

I'm almost finished with "The World is Flat." I like the territory it covers, and I'm sure Friedman is right about globalization and what it portends for the future, especially for India. The book shoud be about 1/3 its current length, though, and our three-time Pulitzer Prize winner should lose the chatty verbosity. He just goes on and on!
