Ash invited to present an Oscar this Sunday

It looks as though Aishwarya Rai’s international career has taken off in a big way. Currently, the actress is shooting for her latest film Mistress Of Spices in the UK.

....The Academy Of Motion Pictures & Sciences has invited Aishwarya Rai to present a trophy to one of the winners on February 27 at the Oscar ceremony.

Nothing in the news so far about her presenting the Ocsar. Which would be strange if she actually did it... considering that it's been 12 hours.

Aish did not present any Oscar. One watch out for the PR machine that makes all sorts of claims on behalf of the star -- a good deal of them untrue. And this news item was posted on aishwarya-forever.com?!? Another one I heard was that Mira Nair was "invited" to direct the 3rd episode of Harry Potter.

That one's true. Nair was sent the script. I remember reading it.

soulfood, with all due respect, just because it is on the internet does not mean its true. If it comes from a respected news source, may be it is.

Its quite common in for people in hollywood to make claims like these, to inflate the perception of self importance. All these indifferent news stories came from one source, Mira Nair, "Indian-born director Mira Nair says that she's been offered the helming chair for Harry Potter 5." Statements like these are usually made by agents, whose job it is to make their client seem as important as possible.

I cannot prove that it did not happen. But it seems implausibe that Mira would be handed the chance to direct one of the highest grossing franchises -- especially since she has minimal visual special effects experience.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, now back to Ash - a much more interesting subject.

True about internet and I know you spent a lot of time poring through those sites [that included Guardian]... but just consider this: Why would she risk her reputation for such a gimmick? She named the scriptwriter in the interviews. And then said she didn't find it creative enough. There's no explanation for the movie studio and the writer to stay quiet after this statement if it were to be fabricated. Unless Mira's agent paid them for publicity too.

And I don't know why Ash would do it too. I can easily imagine this to be purported by a website but Ash gets enough publicity anyway.

If this information (mira nair's claims for example) hit the mainstream media or the hollywood trades (Hollwood Reporter or Daily Variety) the studio may obligated to respond. Even then, studios are very reluctant to go against talent. Sometimes they will corroborate falsehood just to keep the talent happy and hope that next time Mira has a good script she will give them a finance the project beofre their competition. On the other hand, stories like these tend to boost the image of the "star".

Ash being invited to the Oscars is more plausible. She is beautiful, and a pretty face goes a long way in Hollywood. Wheher she was invited to attend or present is another story, as she is relatively a minor talent in Hollywood. Chow Yun Fat or Jet Li would be considered bigger stars her in Hollywood. Now if Bride and Prejudice or Vanity Fair had been roaring successes in the US , it would have been another story. Bride & Prejudice opened on 32 screens as compared to Spiderman's 3,500, for good reason too.
